I'm fuming and writing this in an effort to calm down

Took my gf up to Brum for the weekend and splashed out on a club room upgrade. Been fidgeting all night and it turns out the Queen sized bed is riddled with bed bugs!

Gf hasn't noticed yet, we've both had drinks before bed and she's fast asleep but not only am I itching like mad, I've caught one of the little blighters and have it under a glass.

I didn't pay £180 to get munched on by bugs.. Evidently I did

I might sneak down to reception with my new friend and complain but what then?

Gf has loved the weekend so far and if she found out she would freak out!

I'm very outdoorsy and not phased by finding something crawling on me if out fishing or whatever but my gf would literally freak out.

For some reason bugs always want a piece of me first so I think I'm drawing them away from the gf at the moment.

Suggestions anyone?

Ergh.

I'd raise a complaint definitly. Should be moved.

You at the same hotel for the entire weekend?

Problem mainly is if they've made it to the luggage last thing you want to do is take them home. So either burn the lot or chuck it in the garage with clothes you're wearing and nuke the lot with some form of pesticide.

Full refund and complimentary stay would be about the absolute minimum I would accept I'm this circumstance.
I would inform them of the situation, explain that you want to keep it quiet from the GF as it would be very upsetting for her.
Tale your new 6 legged friend with you if you when you go an talk to them :D

:)

Raised it with the night manager who told us we had to shower, move.rooms and out stuff will be cleaned. Couldn't tell us when we'd get our stuff back or how we're to get home without any clothes. Also said that once we've left the room we won't be able to go back. We're also not allowed down for breakfast, they want to bring it up.

We're supposed to be going shopping in the bullring later, but can't do that in dressing gowns. Gf doesn't want anyone rooting through her belongings either.

Housekeeping manager is in at 8am so we're sitting in the room watching TV (not on the bed! ) until she arrives.

I'm thinking of asking for either a refund or another night in a bug free room and other extras as a goodwill gesture.

Sounds like they don't want you gossiping about it with other guests ;)

Sounds like they're rattled! considering it was £180, and the circumstances, I'd certainly expect you to get something from them - just make sure when you talk to them you have a laptop nearby with a partially composed email to the editor of the daily mail :p

Housekeeping manager attended, all the little blighters had scarpered but she was shown the prisoner and confirmed it as a bed bug. She said they do regular checks but guests can bring them in with their luggage. The Night manager had numerous photos of them, as did I, there were little tiny flea-sized ones, medium-sized ones and big ones about the size of a small ladybird (like my detainee) so I pointed out they were obviously in different stages of their life cycle thus proving this is an existing infestation, not us bringing them with us.

To be fair they've bent over backwards for us, we're being refunded and given another room for tonight, plus 'some other things too'.

Still itching though after.2 showers.

Just what I was thinking, how on earth do you spend 180 quid on a hotel in Birmingham!?

It's a city we've never visited. I recently had a holiday cycling in Europe myself, the gf never asks for anything so I whisked her away for the weekend because our main holiday together isn't until July. Gf gets travel sick so I didn't want too much travelling, though it did take over 2 hours to cover the 80 miles up from Bristol :(

People are slamming Brum but it seems like a nice place. Watched Eye in the Sky at the Electric Cinema last night (oldest working cinema in England) and the Chinese afterwards at the Ching Young in Chinatown was one of the best Chinese meals I've ever had.

I feel for you! Bed bugs are grim.

Watched a program about them a few years back on how they'd pretty much been eradicated in this country. Then as immigration picked up more cases of them started appearing in areas of high immigrant populations as they were being brought over from elsewhere in the world.
They also found UK travellers were returning with them and with the rise in international travel you can guess the result!

Not what you want in your room at all but they are very difficult to kill.

Hope the itching sods off, most of it is probably psychosomatic though.
