Bed bugs in £180 hotel room!

Not slamming Brum at all, I visit regularly and find the city centre excellent I'm just amazed you found a room for 180 quid a night because it isn't a city that has either the constrained space nor the higher tier hotels that would justify such a huge room rate that's all.

Sometimes the Hyatt does it but on those occasions you just avoid it and pick a different one. Still, all's well that ends well if it was free. Push for hotel loyalty points as additional compensation too.

Refund and option to stay again for a weekend with meal/drinks paid for. I stayed at Slaley Hall in a suite and had to put up with building work all weekend. Complained (a lot!) and got full refund of the whole weekend (suite, meals, drinks) and got a complimentary weekend stay fully expensed thrown in too.

Slaley Hall was fantastic!
Stayed there as a kid. Do they still have the off road karts there?
My dad was friends with the owner at the time :) I think it's changed ownership in the interim though!

Housekeeping manager attended, all the little blighters had scarpered but she was shown the prisoner and confirmed it as a bed bug. She said they do regular checks but guests can bring them in with their luggage. The Night manager had numerous photos of them, as did I, there were little tiny flea-sized ones, medium-sized ones and big ones about the size of a small ladybird (like my detainee) so I pointed out they were obviously in different stages of their life cycle thus proving this is an existing infestation, not us bringing them with us.

To be fair they've bent over backwards for us, we're being refunded and given another room for tonight, plus 'some other things too'.

Still itching though after.2 showers.

Well it seems like a situation they dealt with well in the end. Bad situation to be in, but at least the hotel moved to sort it.

It's a city we've never visited. I recently had a holiday cycling in Europe myself, the gf never asks for anything so I whisked her away for the weekend because our main holiday together isn't until July. Gf gets travel sick so I didn't want too much travelling, though it did take over 2 hours to cover the 80 miles up from Bristol :(

People are slamming Brum but it seems like a nice place. Watched Eye in the Sky at the Electric Cinema last night (oldest working cinema in England) and the Chinese afterwards at the Ching Young in Chinatown was one of the best Chinese meals I've ever had.

I went to Birmingham for 45 minutes and had a Chav in Starbucks ask me for a fight because my girlfriend "gave him a funny look". I would've obliged him but I'm pretty sure he was carrying a knife.

My view of Birmingham may be some what biased after that

Surprised this sort of thing doesn't happen more often.

Staying in a Hotel is like shagging a crack whore! You have spent the night in a bed that thousands of other people have already been in.

The Hotel has little control over who stays with them and and if one of the guests is a dirty bugger and brings bugs with him/her then (They do not appear spontaneously you know) the first thing the Hotel will know about it is when somebody complains.

(Routine cleaning will neither detect nor eradicate bed bugs. Or Scabies either!)

Be polite, Be reasonable, Don't get petulant and butthurt, It really is nobodies fault.

Sounds like they don't want you gossiping about it with other guests

More the case that they dont want you to spread them around the Hotel until they are sure that you are clean.

If you really want to scare yourself, you want to borrow one of those CSI "Black Lights" that shows up "Body Fluids" to check out your hotel room. Bed Bugs are likely to be the least of your worries! :D

PS I note that you seem to be having a satisfactory resolution, hope you enjoy the rest of your break :)

You might end up needing a new mattress if you take these home with you so i'd let them wash the clothes or whatever.

A permethrin solution should kill them no worries. So you can soak your clothes in that. You can buy travel bottles (expensive) or get it from a tack shop, as it's often used to treat horses.

Full refund, a complementary stay, and maybe even they pay the bill for having to wash/clean all your clothes.

If they don't play then take pictures, videos and social media and trip advisor are where you post next. The bugs that is not what you and your gf did!

I wasn't, chicken.

I've been bitten by bed bugs before in hotels but only really noticed the following day when the itching starts. It's not uncommon and I rarely stay in cheap hotels so it's not down to price.

I suspect I know which hotel and if it's the one I suspect I got a huge refund as did friends after a new year party that went wrong. Is it one of those once trendy hotels that are now less so?
