So I need a way of charging 2-3 USB devices (Phone/Tablet/Battery bank) from a old land rover defender that has no 12v cigarette socket.

It has 2x 12v batteries in Series giving 24v.

I cannot go cutting into cables or modding the defender in any way as its not mine but I need something I can rig up to the Vehicle batteries that can run from under the seat to the cab where devices could be connected. It will need to be able to be left for a few hours at a time to charge.

Any ideas with links if possible?

There are various DEOK branded items on ebay/Amazon that will take an input voltage range of 12-24v and present a USB output - would need a bit of wiring in though. (Quick link as an example - not to say this is suited to what you want http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adapter-Ste...B00KG2PO26/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1460805525 ).

As an aside though no idea how useful it would be here I stuck a solar panel on the rear shelf for incidental charging of USB stuff, etc. obviously no good if they spend a lot of time in a part of the world with very dismal weather and/or at night. (Coupled with a battery pack it can provide a reserve of power for USB charging).

Thanks that does not look too bad. Found a few related items to that on amazon.

The Defender has a cigarette lighter doesn't it? Just buy one of these: http://www.halfords.com/technology/...r/halfords-usb-car-charger-socket-1-amp-black

As mentioned in op it has no ciggy lighter socket.

As for solar chargers I already have a anker 4 panel one I'm just after a back up just incase that breaks as won't have access to any sort of replacement for a few weeks.

Would sticking 4 of these into a small plastic project box be ok?

Then run a cable with inline fuse to a set of croc clips onto the battery terminals?

I'm a little out my depth when it comes to car electronics but depending on how close to the limit 24V is I'd be happier with something a little higher rated as low load off 12V batteries IIRC can be a bit above 12V and those cheapy ebay jobbies usually don't have much margin for error.

I've not yet come across a USB ciggy charger thingy that won't work with 24V, can't be that hard to wire one in surely?

Try your local camping/caravan place, They should have the parts to make a circuit. Go-Outdoors will most likely have the parts but i can't recommend their customer service.

Yea fair point will look for a slightly higher rated input voltage.

It would need to be clamped directly to the battery and then what will handle the step down in voltage from 24v to 5v? Are you saying something as simple as this and connect it to something like this?

Thanks easier for me to source everything online as I dont speak the language here.

If it's two batteries in series rather than a single 24V battery you can just take 12V from one of the batteries. Saves the hassle of messing with 24V gear.
I'd just get a 12V item and stick some insulated clips on the end as above.
