Anti-austerity protest brings 50,000 to the streets of London to demand David Cameron's resignation

if only we had some system whereby people could all have a say regarding which group of people got to run the country....

Ahh, So the views of "150,000" should overhaul the votes of the majority of the country?

How do I become one of these blessed people who's opinion is gold plated?

If these people don't like the government maybe they should have gotten more people to vote for the other parties.

Unfortunately we don't because fptp throws away most votes.

so what, doesn't stop people from having a say... regardless of the pros and cons of different voting systems. The current govt won, there will be another election in 2020... a protest to call for the resignation of leader who hasn't done anything to warrant having to resign over is just childish

Maybe it has something to do with all the underhanded things and u turns that have gone on since they got elected, budget shambles, DWP shambles, taking money from disabled whilst giving the rich more, tax and off shore funds shambles, recent prostetute shambles and whatever's to come from it. I am probably missing more.

In the past 3 months the Tories seem to be on a self destruct path, given all the above would they be in power if all the above happened in the weeks leading up to the general else? I think not.

So I think playing the "they were voted in to power" card by the majority of voters doesn't stand up anymore.

Voter turnout for the last general election was 66.1% of which 36.9% voted for the Tories, just over 11 million votes for the Tories, so hardly the majority of the country.

It does not make sense for auterity if you spend billions bombing women and children in other countries.

How much is trident 20bn . We either murder people or invest in people ?? Or change the ones making the current choices.

Been a good while since the UK had a government that the majority of the population voted for.

Indeed, 36.8% does not a majority make.

Factor in FPTP and biassed media, I wouldn't call that representative at all other than for vested interests and stupidity.

Just to point out: protests are a pretty fundamental aspect in any democracy. God forbid an active government gets held to account.

If only. Unfortunately, what we have instead is a system where only people in a handful of marginal constituencies get a say in who runs the country.
