ipad pro for £15,000

I don't care who designed it.

Why does some orange anodising justify raising the price by over £14,000?

Because someone is willing to pay that price (money going to a very good cause), it's clearly not for you or anyone else looking for a sensibly priced iPad but to some the one off Ive design clearly adds hugely to the value.

Raising money for the design museum is a "very good cause"?

Didn't it just reopen at the cost of £83 mil, Surely they can't be strapped for cash already?

Every one defines good cause differently so it will be down to you to decide personally I think the design museum is a very good cause. Life is highly subjective one day you might appreciate that most of the time nobody is right or wrong!

Presumably someone who has an altar with Steve Jobs memorabilia on it and does voodoo dances around it daily.

This is one of the times where I wish I was a billionaire and could buy this without thinking about the cost then smash it in front of the designer. Or give it away to some kid. Things like this in life make me angry lol.

You would still have given them the money then...

Better thing to do would be to steal it, smash it up, and then bribe the Police to let you off. :p

It isn't even designed by anyone special, it's designed by the guy whose job it is to design iPads for a living. Perhaps I could understand if it was a design by Richard Serra, or some other artist, but this is just an iPad with different colour back.

iSheep

LOL Richard Serra is just some poncy art/sculptor type, not even in the same league as Sir Jonny Ive really... he's a much much more successful individual with a whole bunch of iconic tech product designs to his name.

No, just someone who likes Ives designs thinks it might appreciate in value and doesn't mind effectively donating 15K to a good cause. Never understood how people get upset by stuff like this nobody is asking you to like it or spend money on it. Probably boils down to jealousy that people have this sort of money to drop on stuff like this but hey there are much much worse examples of the excesses of the rich and powerful than a 15k iPad!

Well yeah it is more aimed at someone who likes design and would be happy to make a donation to that museum. More akin to when celebs etc.. put up prizes for auction at posh charity dinners. The people who buy them are partly just making a donation (and in the case of the dinners making a big public display about making a donation). It isn't really the same as some company making an exclusive limited overpriced line... though I wouldn't put it past Kanye West to try something like that. The buyer in this case could just as easily be some tech company wanting to add to their display of stuff in their lobby... I've seen all sorts from F1 cars to sports memorabilia in company reception areas.

I'm amazed that the BBC haven't Advertised ran a 'News' Story on this yet! They're usually mad keen to Promote Report the News of Apple Products.

No, the chinese won't have a field day. Nor will any mug thinking they can whip out a can of spray paint to replicate this for easy cash.

This iPad is £15k because it is a one of a kind iPad (the "Pro" hasn't been released yet), and because it was "designed" by a famous designer. It has nothing to do with intrinsic or tangible value, nor to do with any particular aesthetic of the design. It is everything to do with exclusivity. Exactly the same as when someone pays millions for an old piece of canvas with some paint on it - so that they own it and, most importantly, that nobody else does.

The buyer of this is likely to be someone that makes £15k in less than a day. It will be chump change to them, and a sizeable chunk of wedge to the museum. Fuss over.
