I have a budget of £500

Brief system spec:
i5 6600k
16gb mem
GTX 980ti

Not too concerned about going above 1080p

Thank you in advance.

What will the monitor be used for? Do you want to spend the £500 and the best you can get for that budget or is that more of a top end that you would rather avoid?

I'm a bit of a "Frames Per Second" fan, worried I may lose frames if I purchase a high resolution monitor. Sorry for my lack of experience, it's been many years since I built a gaming rig.
Thank you for the advice.

With a Gsync monitor you don't have to worry so much about FPS because it has tech that smoothes out frame rate dips.

What monitor do you have now?

And it is for gaming mainly?

Im using a very old 19" Viewsonic. The rig is a gaming setup. Ive been meaning to get a new monitor for a few months.
After some research I couldn't make up my mind.

I have to say if you are going single monitor then G Sync is the way to go ...

Just on your point about 1080 ... I ran 3 1080 monitors for 3 years and changed them for 3 1440 monitors and 1440 is fantastic ....

Right, the budget is out the window after seeing the Acer Predators. It's beens on toast for a few months. Two possible options, the 1080p or the 1440. Would I be correct if I said the 1080p will give me more "Frames Per Second" with a single 980ti. There is lots of hype about the 1440 but is that at a cost of FPS. ?
Thanks again for the advice.

more pixels on screen will always be at a cost of fps.

You can compensate for the fps drop with an adjustment of detail etc

Get the 1440p.

If I may ask What's the point in all those frame rates? Why do you need super frame rates? Do you play a lot of multiplayer twitch shooters that demand quick reactions?

Why are you a "frames per second" fan?

I'm running a Fury X on the X34 3440x1440p monitor so you can expect similar performance from your 980Ti. Here are some of my average frame rate with everything maxed unless stated otherwise:

Rise of the Tomb Raider (anitstropic x4, FXAA anti-ailising) - 50 FPS
Hitman - 57FPS
Fallout 4 - 65 FPS
Shadow of Mordor - 62 FPS
Grid Autosport - 67 FPS
Grid 2 - 75 FPS
Far Cry 4 - average of 55-60 FPS (fluctuates a lot between 48 and 75 FPS)
Darksiders 2 Deathfinitive edition - 70 FPS

My first FPS game was Duke Nukem 3D :) After that I was hooked. Quake series, CS, CoD, MoH.
I always enjoyed competitive, online first person shooters. I hung up my competitive headphones almost 10 years ago due to children. Anyway, I always found performance was increased with a larger "Frames Per Second". I suppose this is why I'm a fps fan. I will never be as good I was, but I can still stick with what I've learned.

^^ that's the one I would have recommended it gives you a best of all without taking the hit of 3440 width.

Otherwise the Z35 appears to be a great, maybe quirky, monitor for just gaming. TFTCentral don't rate it great though even for 144Hz let alone the 200Hz OC. Pity as I was considering one of those for my sim setup.

Definitely don't get 1080p at this stage and with your current setup. I'd probably just go for a Dell Gsync for under £400
