VR900 disconnecting?

VR900 brand new, v1, updated to latest firmware.

Basically if I let it idle for a little while, it just disconnects the DSL. Basically, just a useless PoS.

Is it a reported problem? Bought 2 of these for my 2 houses, but I'm tempted to just pack them up and return them now, unfit for purpose.

Mine was delivered on Friday, I've done the same and it's disconnecting regularly. I've already arranged to return it and am looking at the Netgear D7000 as an alternative.

Well, so where are the posts 'this thing is PoS don't buy it!' ? I've read several threads, and they all say it's a good modem. Turn out it can't even keep the link up for 30 minutes without keeling over.

Grrrr I'm SO going to let loose on the review page...

Well these things happen. Could be a defective unit, could be a quirk with your setup/connection. Even the best router in the world wouldn't work perfectly for everyone.

Could be a defective unit, report the fault with retailer or TP-Link?

Had mine 9 months now, not broken a sweat or suffered loss of sync.

are you on adsl or vdsl?

I would be intrigued to know as I am currently on VDSL and I can't say there are issues. but I am soon to go to an ADSL line...if there are issues then I would be concerned.

mate, i can definitely say the problem you are having is unique to your router as i just checked my log which started from 22nd march which is the last reboot i did and it has been solid. no drop of internet. bucket load of DHCP requests.

Clearly it's not unique to his router as I said above that mine is doing the same. Well, I said 'is', I've already sent it back for that reason.

Sounds like you got a faulty one, does happen.
Btw mine has been solid for months now with no disconnect issues, one of the best modem/routers I own and I don't say that lightly.

Any chance any of you had Plusnet? The latest firmware claims to fix an incompatibility issue with Plusnet, although it's been working fine for me with that ISP.

The new firmware is not just designed for Plusnet, it is designed to correct issues with all ISPs.
Do you have evidence for this? Annoyingly their firmware update change logs are uselessly vague (not unique to TP-Link by any stretch). I have no doubt other changes made their way into this release though.

I'm with Plusnet, never had any issues with Plusnet ADSL and this modem/router, even with the latest firmware.

Btw I'll say look at your filters, I personally use BT VDSL MK3 faceplate for my ADSL line.

VR900 still a great modem IMHO, now my ex Asus DSL-AC68U well that thing would drop every few days unlike my solid VR900.

Thinking of getting one of these as a HH5 replacement on Infinity 2 as I want something with throttle-able guest wifi and improved wifi range. Have a couple of questions on the user interface, if you could help?

- Wondered whether any of you using Dynamic DNS on the router? Have heard some issues that the pre-cnfigured NoIP DDNS services keep hanging and the web support pages suggest using DynDNS with a free subscription as the only other alternative but that option disappeared from DynDNS years ago. I already have a DtDNS account but from the user guide it doesn't look like you can configure an alternate DNS account?

- How's the fixed IP assignment for connected devices? Again, had seen a few reports that this had a tendency to be a bit flakey? Want to make sure that some devices, eg the NAS box and teenager's devices, will get a static IP address.

- Have you used the access control, and if so how is it? Have had occasion to block or limit certain devices and wondered how it worked? Specified MAC address filtering or can I just select a connected device and assign an access time etc?

Thanks in advance if you can answer any of these in advance....
