The Queen's 90th Birthday

There's a definite trend appearing here.

All the royalists are like, 'HB, your a credit to the nation and worth every penny etc' and the non royalists are all, 'I'll **** on your face and eat your heart out when I take over the world etc'.

Classy much, your going to have a difficult taking over the world with so much competition.

I'm pro-republic, but I still like the Queen and I'm happy for her to reign as long as she's able.

:)

36 and still acting like a petulant child.

Says the person who throws around age insults... Touche ;)

This is not a thread to discuss what the Queen does, or how useful/much of a waste the royal family is.

It's a thread to wish an old woman happy birthday.

And this is spot on from what I was saying earlier! Just because people hate the royals and royalists, you don't have to cry over it!

Equally if you don't like them why are you in here bar to wind people up - thankfully we all have different opinions and things we do and don't like. Most of us though recognise when and where we can add to a discussion. Now move along to the next thread.....

Happy Birthday Ma'am!

Just heard a Osprey helicopter come by from RAF Northolt heading into central London - what a sound! Must be to do with Obama's visit no doubt!

We get the Chinooks taking the same "heli line" to and from Northolt but this was a different sound - you could almost feel it coming ...

Hey it was my birthday yesterday too!.. where is the love (or hate) for me? :D

I'm not a royal hater (though there are one or two amongst them  ) and find myself ambivalent on the whole... but I do wish the queen would show a more kind, human side to her nature. I've heard she is rather shy, but she just comes across as a cold fish in a lot of encounters with her subjects.

As jim said, you specifically came into the thread to wind people up.

Creates a government to enslave free human beings through registration of a society.
Uses her government to take our hard earned money through threat of imprisonment, so she can pay to live in the palace, £39m last year to be exact.

The 'Royal' lovers are the ones who need educating.
Look at this, it's utter nonsense. All of it. Pure fantastist drivel.

Yep, brain washed fanatics who the Queen couldn't care if you're alive or dead
You seem to have some issues separating reality from fact, and yet you're the one calling people brain washed fanatics? You have issues.

Most impressive thing i can think of about the queen is 90 years in the public eye but not one scandle/terrible gaff.

Shes like the only one who i cant think of some scandle/stupidity

I'm going to keep posting this until the people who thinks she does **** all actually read it.
Can the Country run without her? Of course but all companies need a boss.

What does the Queen do?

Morning

The Queen's working day begins at her desk scanning the daily newspapers. She then proceeds to go through some of the 300 letters she receives from the general public every day.

Some of these letters the Queen reads and replies to herself, while with others she tells members of her staff how she would like them to be answered.

Her Royal Highness will then see two of her private secretaries with the daily quota of official papers and documents.

She receives a huge number of correspondences from Government ministers and her representatives in the Commonwealth and foreign countries. All of these have to be read and, where necessary, approved and signed.

A series of official meetings or 'audiences' will often follow. Each meeting usually lasting 10 to 20 minutes.

If there is an Investiture, a ceremony for the presentation of honours and decorations, it begins at 11.00am and lasts just over an hour.

The Queen will then lunch privately although every couple of months, she and The Duke of Edinburgh will invite a dozen guests from a wide variety of backgrounds to an informal lunch.

If Her Majesty is spending the morning on engagements away from her desk and other commitments, she will visit up to three venues before lunch, either alone or jointly with The Duke of Edinburgh.

Afternoon

In the afternoons, the Queen often goes out on public engagements and prepares for each visit by briefing herself on who she will be meeting and what she will be seeing and doing.

Her Royal Highness carries out around 430 engagements (including audiences) a year and will regularly go out for the whole day to a particular region or city.

The afternoon draws to an ended with a meeting of the Privy Council with several government ministers.

Evening

Early evening can involve the weekly meeting with the Prime Minister, which usually takes place on Wednesdays at 6.30pm.

Yeah **** doing that

Thats like my idea of hell

but I do wish the queen would show a more kind, human side to her nature. I've heard she is rather shy, but she just comes across as a cold fish in a lot of encounters with her subjects.
Given her position what would you have her do?

I've met her on quite a few occasions and she always just struck me as a kindly old(er) lady, who was expert at seeming interested in what was going on/being demonstrated to her whether she really was or not :p. Which lets face it is more than a lot of people can manage.

At this point in her life you would just say:

'**** it, I dont have to pretend to be interested in this crap. Who are they gonna replace me with at these events if i dont play ball, Phillip? thought not'

Many belated happy returns redline ;) `Spose I'd better have a pint for you later, too, I had one for Lizzie last night. It's hard keeping sober!

Remember, she is a head of State, not a social worker, looking enraptured while the King of Tonga shows you some more tame tribal dancers probably gets galling after a while :) As for gathering bouquets of flowers from strangers in a huge crowd, it's just a good job she doesn't suffer from hay fever...

She has given her life up to live in a hell that none of us could do without being pee'd off.
She didn't even have her birthday off but kept on working.

That is just an average day too I'll wager.

Exactly and how people can claim she does nothing is beyond me.

Ha-ha thank you.. enjoy the pint :D

I'm pretty sure most of the occasions she attends are stupendously boring, so I can relate to her looking uninterested, but there have been a few times, and when meeting certain people where is would have been nice to see her break that steely reserve. Considering her position she does seem to lack some essential social skills at times.

see this is an interesting point, anti royals always prattle on about them being"scroungers" etc and that's why they should be removed.

but surely the child welfare angle is much more of a reason, being born into that family as the next in line is borderline indentured servitude.

your life is decided and you'll be doing appearances etc from a very young age.
