hi all

need some help here in a best path as 1 of my 7950s has died so wondering now if to get another 2nd hand one or go big single?

would i see much gain from say a 290x or 780 vanilla / ti?

answers on a postcard :)

cheers

have to say I am out of touch with the next gen of gear atm....not a bad shout.

Seems to chew through everything with just a single card that I just tried....PCars, AC, GTA V, SF V and F1 2015

So not as long I cant game til then :)

Yea use a single card for now. its what im doing with my twin 290x's as there is no game that seems to work correctly with two.

I've two 7950's in the back room awaiting an owner...they were meant to be going to a friend 6 months ago, but as of yet he's still not decided on what he is doing about an upgrade. If you go down the road of wanting another one, I might be able to help.

I wouldn't bother buying anything prior Polaris/Pascal release. 7950 is still good card on its own. I am sure you can play some games at lower settings for few months.

I still use a single 7950. Runs everything I've tried at high settings at 1080p, still a capable card that res. :)

Out of interest, what brand / design are they?

If I was you I'd wait, if the 7950 can hold you over for another 5 weeks, then when pascal is launched look at getting the 1070 which if history is to repeat it self, will be a fraction slower than the 980 Ti or could slightly exceed it in performance 670 vs 580 40nm vs 28nm the 670 was a good chunk faster and then 28nm vs 16nm the 1070 could be faster than 980 Ti

Yeah I have been doing more research and a 290x is tempting. Only thing swaying me is that my kraken setup is not known for being good with them :( does not cool vrms enough

Just managed to find the gelid VRM heatsink package for the 290x at 5 quid so snapped a pack up. Means if I go thst route I can use the kraken G10 safely now :)

so did one more test that someone mentioned at work - swapping the slot card is located in case its a motherboard issue. problems follow card still :(

Have now removed from system and put up cheap on the MM if anyone wants a challenge. I could be all wrong and missed something and its fine lol

Thanks for all of the replies so far everyone
