Windows 10 taking over an hour to start on fresh install.

I've upgraded a Windows 7 laptop to Windows 10 a couple of days ago. Originally it was booting under a minute, however it's now starting to take over 1 hour.

When this happens I have the normal Windows 10 logo, then the screen goes blank and you can hear the HDD working. Once Windows has loaded the computer is quite fast and snappy.

The laptop is a Satellite C670 with a dual core and 4GB RAM booting off HDD, it's not the latest tech but there is something clearly wrong Windows can go from a boot time of under a minute, to then over an hour.

I have actually reset the Windows 10 installation putting everything back to fresh but the problem still occurs.

Does anyone have any suggestions I could try?

I will check the HDD, however I think it's something todo with Windows 10 fast boot.

When I do a normal shutdown / restart (using fast boot), boot time is normal speed (under 1 min).

When I do a full restart (not using fast boot) it's taking over 1 hour to get into windows.

Thanks for above information, will check boot sequence.

You won't believe but since reboot it's over 2 hours to start, i'm just staring at a blank screen with HDD running. How can a new installation of Windows 10 go so bad!

Update.

It's looking like it's a graphics issue. Basically windows is loading, however a blank screen is still staying, because I can hear the HDD I presumed windows was still loading.

Can anyone find me any Windows 10 64 graphics drivers for my CPU, it's a Pentium P950, I believe it's Sandy bridge based? I've tried downloading drivers from intel but always get the message hardware not supported.

Many thanks

Could be. W10 does a pretty good job with drivers though. If it was displaying at the right screen resolution then it probably did them automatically.

Can't find a "P950", the closest match I can find is a Pentium B950. It's used in the Satellite C670-16F. That one has an NVIDIA GeForce 315M display adaptor.

I am Calm down please. Don't you think this would have been HIGHLY relevant information to include in your OP?

Update on this, sorry for late reply I've had a busy day.

1) It's definitely a graphics driver issue, I know this as if I 'roll back' the graphics driver to Microsoft Basic Driver in control panel the issue goes away.

2) To fix with correct HD driver. When the screen goes blank on startup I have to press the power button, this puts the laptop into standby, when I press button again it comes out of standby and screen appears correct.

3) It's only happening on restarts (or windows updates), a normal shut down / start is using fast boot and i'm presuming fast-boot is not having this issue.

BTW - this is the exact issue i'm having

No Win 10 drivers for that cpu I believe, my wife had a similar problem and we found we had to use the Win 8.1 driver for the B950.

Could you give me a link to the driver you downloaded?

If it helps anyone else i'm looking for a second generation HD graphics driver, everything i'm finding for Windows 10 is third generation upwards.

See my post #11 first JasonM, you need to tell us exactly which model of Satellite C670 it is, as some use the Intel graphics and some use an Nvidia Mobile GPU.

Jason did you upgrade from windows 7 to window 10 ?
Or did you format and do a fresh install of windows 10 ?

As maybe there some old parts of the window 7 drivers still left and causing problems

I am surprised no-one has suggested to do a refresh tbh(Although the above post alludes to that). Backup your files and try it. Sometimes the upgrade doesn't go as smoothly as you would like or a program you have installed may not be compatible or be damaged. A refresh will eliminate these things as a cause.

Make sure you have your install media and license keys for any programs you can't do without.
