Windows 10 taking over an hour to start on fresh install.

See my post #11 first JasonM, you need to tell us exactly which model of Satellite C670 it is, as some use the Intel graphics and some use an Nvidia Mobile GPU.

It's an Satellite C670-166, part number PSC3UE-01L009EN

It's definitely only using the Intel HD Graphics chipset, the Laptop was originally budget range from Argos that I helped purchase for my mother, I remember the specs on it then also.

In device manager the display adapter is showing as 'Intel(R) HD Graphics', no other display adapters are showing.

Windows is working perfect once loaded, and it's playing YouTube videos in 1080p no issue, it's just the black screen on windows restart i'm having.

Jason did you upgrade from windows 7 to window 10 ?
Or did you format and do a fresh install of windows 10 ?

As maybe there some old parts of the window 7 drivers still left and causing problems

I did an upgrade from Win 7 64bit Home Premium to Windows 10, this was done using the media creation tool from with-in windows 7. On this first attempt I retained applications and user data.

When I started having black screen issue I rolled back, but keeping user settings / data only. (no old applications)

When still having issues I then re-installed again from a USB Stick but doing a totally fresh installation with no applications / or user data saved, this was totally clean. Windows 10 some how picked up my Windows key automatically.

So I've done 3 Windows 10 installations on the laptop, and the black screen issue on windows restart has always been there.

Update again, at least this is current best guess.

I did some more research, and it appears when the computer boots without fast boot (normal boot) it's putting the display to the external VGA. There is no VGA monitor connected and only when I standby the computer, then un-standby the computer does the correct LCD panel display.

There was someone with another make of laptop having the exact same issue, he resolved with a BIOS update. I have searched for a BIOS update for this Toshiba but can't find one.

Does this Satellite C670 Intel HD / nvidia combiantion have an optimus capability ?
.. after driver/screen upgrades with a Dell laptop I found I would have black screen on boot unless I first disabled optimus in the BIOS

[Optimus was when graphics work could be dynamically switched between intel hd and discrete nvidia chip ... but not relevant for your hardware, as you say]

are you sure you do not have nvidia gpu though (maybe device is in device manager as
an unknown piece of hardware not categorised as graphics)
when I went to http://www.toshiba.co.uk/support/drivers/laptops/
fillling in satellite c670/psc3ue/win8-upgrade/display driver
it suggests both a nvidia and intel driver are available - but maybe the Toshiba site is badly organised.

If you google 'intel hd black screen boot' you get many hits
some suggesting 'BIOS to "discreet graphics only".' but only if you had nvidia.

It's an Satellite C670-166, part number PSC3UE-01L009EN

jpaul, this is the model, which annoyingly doesn't appear on the website. A close match is Satellite C670-165 which has a Pentium B950 (which is close enough to what the OP said) and a similar part number (PSC3UE-01K009EN). It's got Intel HD graphics, as most of them do, so I think that's probably what the 166 has too.

Edit: my fault for causing confusion re. the model number!
