That's very un-Mail. Usually they're posting pictures of children and commenting on how they are 'filling out nicely'.

It is South London, so you're not too wide of the mark.
Seems like a false story to some extent, looking at the article closely and the pictures it looks like it was at the end of the race rather than towards the start as they said. The buxton chaps are even letting them do it, seems to me that in fact someone said help yourselves to the left-overs.
Scum is all around us, put temptation in the way of scum and it acts like scum.

The mass of empty bottles in the gutter in some of the photos certainly supports that actually.
This is such a non-story. To me it's pretty obvious the Buxton guys have allowed the water to be taken, also looks like the end of the race. Can't see many marathon runners left!
Definitely not stealing, being allowed to take it after the end of the race.
What gets me more than anything though is the sheer ferocity they're going at it. It's as if they're giving away free TV's. Are there no taps in Deptford or something?
At least be a bit civilised!
Indeed.
Possibly just the Daily Mail and The Sun doing what they're reknowned for; taking something and exaggerating it and/or turning it into something else to fuel rage and sell their rubbish to the gullible.
London Marathon have said they are aware of the footage and will be investigating the incident.
Hugh Brasher, Event Director for London Marathon Events Ltd, said: “It’s very disappointing to see water being stolen in this way from the official water stations for our runners.
