what's your opinion on this ( daily mail link )

I wouldn't have the bottle to do that. Even if they offered the left overs to me for free.

I would have to keep a tight lid on the urge to get me some free water though.

Here's the actual video.

It's pretty clear from the video, that it's plain theft. The race is still happening, and it's hard to see how anyone could interpret the situation as it's ok to help yourself to dozens of crates of water that don't belong to you.

no, as they haven't investigated it. they are going purely by a report. its a generic comment which means nothing. got to take the statement as a whole, not cherry pick.

they've been told by a less than reliable source it was stolen, they haven't investigated it. it's clear to see from the pictures, at least the vast majority is well after the finish,

It makes no difference at what point the race was at.

If that happened at 1:15pm those runners are doing 24 minute miles, that is not a race.

I've manned a water stations at the marathon before - we normally give the water to anyone who wants it after 1pm.

I don't think this is theft. I think it's water being given away for free, it's caused a bit of a frenzy (who doesn't like free stuff?) and it's been dressed up to look like theft for some bizarre reason.

I confidently predict ZERO people will be arrested over this "theft", despite their faces being clearly visible in the video.

So why are people working at this water station filming the people taking the water, and refer to it as "stealing"?

Do people always tell the truth on videos posted to youtube??

I'm not saying they're lying. I'm not saying the water is being stolen either though. I don't have enough information at hand to make a decision either way, but past experience has taught me to treat any Daily Mail article with a healthy dose of scepticism. But seeing what has been previously done with left over water at previous marathons, I suspect that this is over excitement relating to "free stuff" rather than it being stolen.

I look forward to the outcome of the marathon organisers investigation.

My opinion is the link will be click bait giving a sensationalist version of a story which upon further examination turns out not to be accurate to what actually happened.

Am I close?

where does it say its videoed by officials and where do the officials say its stealing?

The man narrating the video is wearing Buxton bib and hat, and refers to it as stealing. One of his colleagues is also seen filming on his phone. It might not be as it appears, but if not, it's a very convoluted stage.

Am I close?

It appears so.
