what's your opinion on this ( daily mail link )

I expect what has happened is that the public were given the go ahead to take what they need, and the staff expected most people to be civilized and take a bottle or two, rather than entire stacks of trays on trolleys.

Bizzare given it's just water really.

If there's one place on earth I wish they'd wipe the board clean and start again, it's London. The word "civilised" doesn't come to mind when I think of that cesspit.

The article also states that the water station volunteers are told not to get into any altercations when this sort of thing happens.
It's more likely standing helplessly by than actively encouraging them to take it.

I don't blame them! Who wants to get stabbed over a bottle of water in South London!
Best thing I ever did was leaving that **** hole.

My opinion of this is it shows the start of a black market in bottled water occurring.

The organisers have gone on record to say unused water is used for future council run events and is not given away.

Really? Because when I was on a station 2 years ago we were explicitly told t give them away.

Some enterprising local was even bagging up the empty bottles - said he got paid 15p per kg - said he managed over a ton the year before netting £150!

Seems like in previous years local residents were invited to take the leftovers as a thank you for the inconvenience. Sounds like there was just a bit of miscommunication this year (which the Daily Mail/Britain First then pounced upon).

What was the miscommunication? Subliminal messaging convincing them that they were still living in a sub saharan continent, and thus needed a sh*tload of water?

Miscommunication as to whether they were allowed to take the water after the race. And how do you know that any of those people have ever lived in sub-Saharan Africa?

I think it is absolutely disgusting

At 1.15pm most of the runners would have cleared that point of the route, so few left who would need water - but that is not the point.

Some people are just animals, it is so pathetic.

Yes. They certainly looked and spoke like they were descended by fine, strong Norman, Gaelic and Danelaw stock.
