thinking of upgrade soon

is the reference 980 worth the extra £80 on what my 970 sc is

its a refrence single fan 980

my current card plays most games in 1080 @ a solid fps.

is the 980 much up and upgrade and what sort of heat differences would there be

getting a new monitor soon so thinking 144hz or 1440p

Not worth the upgrade IMO.

Have you oc'd your card?

If not, worth doing.

Not worth upgrading at all. The gap between the two has opened up a little in more recent titles (which I can only assume is due to the 970's crippled VRAM), but it's still nowhere near wide enough to justify the extra cost.

There are new cards coming from June/July - now is about the worst possible time you could think about upgrading!

The 980 hasn't been a good value option... well, ever, sadly. My friend got one a week before the 980Ti announcement/release, and his hands have basically been glued to his head ever since!

thanks for the information guys. was just wondering at the min. 970 has a 200mhz oc but nothing wild. hit about 10k in firestrike and run gta 5 on ultra around 45fps

Most, if not all 970's clock to around 1500Mhz. You should clock it to that at least.

I upgraded from 970 to 980 (both overclocked similarly to roughly 1500mhz), but there isn't a huge difference. I only did it because the 980 was bought from my brother for a 'family price', and my 970 went into my daughters PC.

It did slightly annoy me that I only had 3.5GB of full speed memory on the 970, although it didn't cause me any issues.

Personally I would wait for the new cards to come before you upgrade, you will either get an awesome deal on older gen or something brand new.

Being his friend, why didn't you tell him about his right to return the card for a full refund (minus postage costs) given he was within 14 days of purchase? Or did you just like watching him cry? ;)

thanks. haven't really had an issue with 3gb vram as apparently gta 5 is using 3.8gb running ultra.
my system is still pretty strong at the minute so I may stick with it and see what nvidea bring out.
