Hi folks,

the past 2 nights, and a couple of nights last week, when i go to play a game, within a few minutes (less than 5) my whole computer will completely freeze and not respond to any keyboard commands. The only thing i can do is a hard reset.

Now I actually got something when i restarted the computer:

I can't access the files that help describe the problem. Is there anything from the above that can shed some light as to why my computer keeps wanting to freeze shortly after getting into a game?

Thanks in advance

Yep all fans are working as they should. Haven't changed anything. Just randomly started doin it a couple of weeks back. I had been playing fallout 4, one day it was fine. Next day i could play for more than a minute and it would freeze. Next day it worked fine. Then fast forward to this week, 2 nights ago i was playing Rust and it was running great. went onto it last night and couldnt play for more than a minute without the game freezing up.

Download BlueScreenView and run it, it is reasonably accurate and gives more info as to what in particular is causing the crash. From the info you get off that we'll be able to determine what to do to fix it.

Then possibly a PSU problem. The fact that it does it randomly would suggest memory or PSU issue though memory issues usually result in a reset.

Do you get any screen artifacts before the crash??

Nope no artefacts. I will be playing a game then it would just completely freeze. about a second or 2 after the freeze i sometimes hear a windows notification sound but I can't tab out or anything like that and sometimes the came music/noises continue as if it were running fine but the computer doesn't respond to any commands.

Ok, so i downloaded bluescreen view and it told me it was the graphics driver, so i completely uninstalled everything to do with Nvidia and the graphics card (GTX 660), restarted, reinstalled and restarted again. went into game with the graphics setting on simple and it crashed as usual. The game itself crashed but unlike before i was still on skype with my friend, the keyboard was reacting (pressing caps lock enabled and disabled etc) but i couldn't tab out, ctrl-alt-del wasnt doing anything, windows+d wasnt doing anything so all i could do was restart. no BSOD report this time as it didnt technically completely crash the computer. getting at my wits end with this thing

so tried playing again, this time with temperature monitor and the game windowed. when i got into the game the temperature steadily climbed and crashed at 76 degrees. this time i got an actual proper BSOD on the display which i haven't had before. Ran bluescreenview again and was the same cause again

Just crashed again there whilst I was going to download ddu, not even in a game. No bsod, just froze, Skype still running fine and keyboard responding but otherwise completely frozen. Think the it's probably the GPU itself is past its use by date.
