Hi

I do more than 10-15k a year and need an auto due to older members in the family.
Budget: 6-8k

More inclined towards a
clk320cdi
c class 320cdi 08 onwards
bmw 325d

Others that im not so keen on due to the dsg, however would I be ok with a warranty?
golf gtd dsg
golf gt 170 dsg
audi a3 (09) facelift 170 dsg
skoda octy vrs cr dsg

Are there any other suggestions I should consider? which of the above is the best in your opinion? Are the above cars any good and what should I look out if considering one?

Thanks.

C Class coupe / saloon, A3, 3 series, Golf?

I'd decide what you need from a car first, your choices seem a bit random.

ahh thanks for the suggestions but not a fan of either... needs to look a bit more sporty haha

Where a C Class saloon is the very image of sportiness? That's a purely subjective point of view.

I think you've already made up your mind and you want either the BMW or Mercedes and are looking instead for people to justify your opinion. You won't get that from OcUK motors I'm afraid.

People here will be brutally honest with their input. Expect one of the next comments to be along the lines of "if reliability is your main concern don't spend £8k on a premium German car that's got plenty to go wrong with it".

Your budget will buy you a much newer (and likely more reliable) vehicle from a marque such as Ford, VW, Skoda, etc.

Good luck!

perhaps a Vauxhall Insignia? A friend of mine has the cdti which has about 175bhp, goes very well indeed and has the sri trims on so looks quite sporty while also having a pretty decent fuel economy. Might not be 'premium German' enough for you but its worth a consideration.

Monedeo Titanium X Sport? http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...tic&aggregatedTrim=Titanium X Sport&logcode=p

Octavia VRS? http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...&postcode=DD11 4TW&fuel-type=diesel&logcode=p

The problem you are going to have is that your budget doesn't REALLY get you into a "nice", relatively young, sporty looking German motor, with decent spec, low-ish miles, decent engine, and the reliability you are wanting.

I mean, you "could" sacrifice everything else and go for engine : http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...w,new&radius=1501&postcode=DD11 4TW&logcode=p

Or you could sacrifice everything else and go for youngest (looking at 3 series here too to be fair, other marques might get you something marginally newer). http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...smission=automatic&fuel-type=diesel&logcode=p

The problem is with both of these options is you are sacrificing spec. And going for a German motor means you are sacrificing age, which has a consequence on reliability.

Something like this might be about the best you could hope for from ze Germans : http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...=ageasc&price-to=8500&model=c_class&logcode=p But if you like that interior, you'd be almost as well off with a late 90's Vauxhaul...

Budget isn't there for a good facelift. M-Sport will look "sportier", like you want, but will be more expensive as a result, possibly pushing good ones out of your budget. I would also prefer the Touring (had a 335d LCI Touring before my current car), but the saloon will likely be easier to find. Try to get one with pro nav. It makes ALL the difference in these cars.
