Naz Shah suspended for anti-Semitism

Just goes to show bigotry isn't exclusive property of the right.

I can't say I'm surprised, Labour has a track record of this kind of thing but now they have an extremist in charge fellow fringe lefties feel empowered to come out of the woodwork. Naz Shah and the NUS president are just the tip of very large bigoted iceberg.

When did anti-zionism become racist exactly?

It's entirely worth arguing against the vapid disingenuous attempt to connect being a follower of the Jewish faith, and supporting the mild disaster of what the UK and France did to the middleeast 80-60 years ago.

I think we are playing yet another dangerous game of failing to recognise the entrenchment of political ideology with religious "justification".

This is overblown, and her resigning is a disaster for the discussion.
 
It is completely possible to criticize Israel without it also being an attack on the Jewish religion, but I don't think it's possible to make enough of a distinction in a captioned image posted to Facebook. People commenting on it should be aware enough to ensure that they are writing down the point that they intended to make.

She did not resign, she got suspended, they are very different things, just to be clear :)
 
The problem with the whole "criticising Israel is not anti-Semitism" argument is that most of the people who criticise Israel are anti-Semitic. You just need to push them a little and it all comes spilling out.

The Left is absolutely overrun by anti-Semites and it's about time this was exposed.
 
When the newspapers start running headlines "jew done this crime", call them anti semitic.

Then clap yourself on the back for being a hypocrite when the same paper runs headlines "Muslim done this crime" a week before and you didn't throw a fit then.

Apparently islamophobia is non existent but anti semitic behavior is rife.

Nothing wrong with what she called for or the image she quoted. What is wrong is the blatant over reaction and suspension of her.

Ridiculous bending down whenever Israeli interests are involved.

Israel in general have played an underhand game which contributes to all this kind of talk. Anytime some remotely criticises the Israeli government they are branded antisemitic.

Speak out about the excessive use of force or illegal use of certain ordnance on civilian areas in paletstine - yeah you must be an antisemite.

Don't like the Israeli illegal occupation and settlement building in areas of the west bank and Jerusalem - yep you got it, you are an antisemite

Question why Israel doesn't allow the IAEA inspectors in - yeah you must be a Jew hater because you want the international inspectors poking around in Israels nuclear weapons programme.

This victimhood complex that israel tries to portray at every turn makes me puke.

With regards to this case Naz Shah was out of line. However on a more general point Israel need to stop crying wolf everytime someone crticises their actions.

Well in most cases supporters of Israel sometimes equate criticism of Israel with anti-Semitism in a deliberate attempt to prevent legitimate criticism of Israel.You just need to push them a little and it all comes spilling out.

Only if you're an idiot.

It's like saying all Muslims are terrorists because of ISIS et al, clearly this is untrue. So don't associate all Jews with the actions of the Israeli government, simples.

Unfortunately this distinction is not possible for a lot of people, as they actually are Jew hating racists, who find it difficult to come to terms with their own racism as they usually claim to be the victims of racism themselves.

I don't think you actually read my post correctly. Just in case you have comprehension difficulty I'll say it again..........

You only need to criticise or pass comment on something that the Israeli government has done in order for most if not all pro Israel supporters to label you an antisemite. It happens all the time and at no point in my post did I say anything about criticising jews due to the actions of their government. I am talking about criticising the Israeli government or any rulings passed by the Knesset that are seen to be excessive or completely over reactive.

Again this cirticism alone gets you branded as an antisemite by the pro Israel lobby.
 
13 and counting Labour mp's now calling for Livingstone to be suspended for his statements yesterday and this morning backing Naz Shah and going even further.
