Hi guys can anyone recommend any good 'pirate' novels I could read please?

I have just finished watching the second season of 'Black Sails' and it has given me the urge to lose myself in a good novel and image I'm captain of a British 'Man of war' chasing pirates. :D

Flint and silver by John Drake followed by 'Pieces of eight' and 'Skull and bones' by the same author. They are prequels to treasure island and are very good.

Considering the British Navy were in effect the biggest 'Pirates' on the high seas at the time, you might want to check out the Patrick O'Brian - Aubrey & Maturin series of books, (Y'know..the Master & Commander film..Why did they never do a sequel to this :() They are quite accurate (Historically) by all accounts are are really good reads, best to do them in order though, there's 20 in the series.

And also pick up A Sea of Words by Dean King as a companion to the books because they are "very" accurate in seafaring terminology of the Napoleonic era and the companion is a must for many of the very alien expressions used ;)

I read all 20 novels in sequence, back to back. It took me about 18months.
When I finished the last one I went back and started all over again. Yes they are that good!

If you don't mind reading manga, then One Piece is an epic pirate story, however it's going to be about another decade before it finishes.

Hornblowers

Not really about pirates although he gets captured by them in one of the books. Still a great series of books about the rise of Horatio Hornblower from midshipman to admiral of the fleet in the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars. You really can't go wrong with this series of books. The dvd set is also very good.
