Only had it 2 days might have to take it back
As soon as i start a game it starts, then once i exit the fans stay like that for ages
Edit:
Cut the back out of my tv unit, it some cheapish ikea besta unit
I noticed that the back of the ps4 was right up against the backboard
So cut the back out with a stanley knife (other named knifes are available)
And played for one hour solid and it never went above 54db
Whereas before the fans would kick in straight after the disc had finished spinning, so i am hoping it is that was the issue
That'll be why then, it needs a decent amount of airflow otherwise it'll just end up recycling the hot air causing the temps to rise. The intake vents are on the front and sides so ideally you don't want anything blocking those.
yes, when i checked in cabinet the back and top of unit was quite hot.
like i said, the fan would kick in within minutes.. but played R&C for an hour and it only went up around 6/7db
hopefully that has sorted it now
on another note, not sure if its R&C but the voice volume seems low.
not got another game to test
Optical cannot do more than two channels in PCM mode. Optical should always be bitstream Dolby or DTS. If HDMI then PCM is the best quality available.
My last post was terrible, it made no sense - why I bother trying to post using a mobile etc well.
Anyhow, your post was what I actually might have meant.. I use PCM over HDMI - and it gets me 5.1 audio, just checked my PS4 settings. Thanks for making it clearer.
I just have my ps4 connected to tv via hdmi
Will check my settings tomorrow
I have an optical cable somewhere, might try that to see if that makes any difference
I had all sorts of issues when I first connected mine, crushed blacks, lack of 5.1. Had to mess about with limited /full range HDMI and audio outputs and finally got crisp colours without the crushed blacks I so hate, and 5.1 audio.
Seems PS4 systems do not auto set themselves up very well. I was playing resogun when I first got it, and thought wow sound is so low and lacking punch, and also lacking rear spear output, and why does the screen in places look so dark - and could hardly make out small details. After some research and tinkering, finally got it all set correctly.

Just an update, it appears my tv is at fault
Whenever i put the ps4 on the tv's sound defaults to 'game'
When i change it back to standard its ok
Has anyone had their controllers L2 / R2 become stuck? It doesn't happen with every press but it does happen often enough to be an issue in having.
There is a way to tell if you have a newer controller: Look on the back at either the model number or the FCC ID. If it ends in an “A” that is the latest stealth revision. These have been in circulation since about late summer/fall of last year.
