Hi.

just used some Granville 5w30 C1 oil.

says it meets all the spec.

does anyone have any idea if it's actually any good? Was £20 for 5L... got three bottles to do a few changes over next 12 months.

thanks

If it meets the spec for your application then it should be fine. Exactly how good, nobody will know unless they take it for testing and analysis.

While it may meet the spec, it likely doesn't have any of the addative packages that the larger brands spend millions developing.

For the sake of £5 more or whatever I would be sticking to the big names e.g. shell, castrol, Mobil, motul or Fuchs.

It depends entirely on the car imo.
I have used Granville oil in my MX5 before, with the view that it is better than what the engine was developed around in the late 1980s.

A big negative was that the engine consumed more oil when on the cheaper oil.
Now I use fancier brands. There is always somewhere with a deal on a bigger brand, even though they market the **** out of the extras they include.

Just make sure you use the correct grade and type. For example I'd never use fully synthetic in my MX5.

Mazda 3 diesel IIRC.

Indeed it is.
the 2.2 185.

it's supposed to take C1 oil for the dpf.

I was going to stick some comma oil in but I left it at work. And there was a £20 difference in price between this and some castrol in the local factors.

I plan to dump it in 6k anyway.

I have noticed a lower mpg read since refreshing it though, very odd

6k oil changes, lol. Why?

You should hear some of the guys on US forums. They accuse you of negligence if you go more than 3k without an oil change.

why not? Its not exactly a high cost to change oil and the filter is it? £35 for both and takes 30 mins... :/ Last oil was in for 7k and it came out like black swamp water

It serves no purpose - why not do it every 1k? Every 5k? Every 9k?

Or just follow the guidelines of the people who designed and built the engine.

Putting crap oil in every 6k seems pointless, just use the right stuff at the right interval.

Doesn't the oil in a diesel turn into jet black goop about 5 miles after putting it in anyway?
