What have you done to your car today?

Did the spring clean/summer prep on the car. Washed it, clayed it (which is always such a great feeling when you can feel all the rough gunk coming off the car), thought about polishing it, then didn't (as I'd not noticed any scratches or marks. Of course this changed about 1/2 way through the wax), and applied some Collinite 476 and RainX to the windows. Screwed up with the Collinite by leaving it on far too long which meant it was a right bugger to get off again. Sufficed to say my arms are now very tired, but pleased with the result, given that being a light colour the results will never be as spectacular as black:

Yeah. I do keep looking but they're really quite a lot of money, somewhere around £650 to get a set of Hellas. I'm keeping an eye out for used ones, but have to be careful as so many of them have broken adjusters.

Next job today was number plates..
- The rear was delaminating
- Cruddy BMW logos where fading
- The rear plate looked like it cost £2.50 and was made by a school kid.
- I'm not a fan of the 3D lettering

So I decided to try some press ally plates, a Whopping £20 from eBay and allegedly legal, with reflective paint, postcode of supplier, bs stamp and correct font/letters.

How did you find aligning the rear plate? I did mine and it took a fair bit of measuring and several reference points with a marker pen. You only really get one shot sticking it down also. :D

You got a link to the supplier of your plates?

Finish looks really good on them.

Matt the finish is superb in comparison to the refurbished 194s removed. The finish is flawless on this set. After fitting the car went to gleamvaleting for detailing. After wheel waxing the wheels really do have a nice shimmering wet look.

The wheel set will removed to be ceramic nano coated by gleam at the end of May, over the bank holiday as the coating takes 24hrs to cure.

The service provided by FA Wheels is excellent, as is their customer service, and very professional. Would highly recommend.

The front plate was easy as the front holder basically has a lip on the top/sides so you can butt the top of the plate against that at an angle, and hinge the plate down on it's sticky pads just ensuring equal gap on either side.

The rear was trickier, I tried a few methods, but the easiest was to use masking tape and one of the kids rulers, I taped the ruler so the bottom of the plate would be aligned, and then put masking tape on either side on where the plate needed to be. I then put the plate bottom against the ruler at an angle, ensured it was aligned between the side bits of tape, and hinged it forward so the sticky pads would make contact.

Also, some obligatory pics of the LED lights.. I will say that my crappy camera phone hasn't been kind to the colours they are slightly whiter than shown

And reverse lights that are just insane although very directional.

Tried an OBD II scanner as the check engine light is on. No codes found. Also tried disconnecting the battery for half an hour to see if that would sort it but unfortunately not. It'll have to go to a garage to be checked out, but as I'm planning on having the timing belt changed (quite a big job on a Kia Sportage apparently) they can do it the same time.
