Hi I've been out of PC gaming for about 3/4 years now. I'm looking to buy a new PC around £800. What sort of specs should I be looking at? I want to play nearer the high end settings. My old PC had a gtx 780 and i5. Wish I didn't sell it.
Any advice appreciated.

Thanks.

You should have kept the pc that you had because just about every pre-built pc on here for around £800 is going to have less performance. By the time you add on windows and a gpu that is better than the GTX780 that you had you are looking at £1000 or more.

Not necessarily!

Can even select the 16GB RAM option and still it'll be 760 quid. Mind you it won't be a LOT faster than your old rig but at least it fits the budget and is a slight improvement.

For £822 he can smack a 250GB Samsung SSD + 1TB Seagate combo in there as well (or £804 with 8GB RAM).

Looks good. Would definitely want ssd. How future proof would that set up be. As in upgrading ?
Thanks for the replies and help.

well you have just broken forum rules by linking to a competitor... most of us here use ocuk, because we can use the forums , ask for advice, and get good customer support. theres no way I would part with £800 on a bay seller.

the case yes its a bit pants, and I'm not sure I would trust aerocool psus either. your choice tho, that's also not the latest intel cpu and motherboards. that's Haswell cpu with DDR3 , latest is skylake with DDR4. so your not really adding future proof because your getting the previous generation

Sorry. How do I delete the link? Thanks for your input. That's the sort of info I'm trying to find out. I've read that new gpu are coming out next month. Is this true, and should I wait and save a bit more cash?
Cheers

you could try waiting if your not in a hurry.. the new GPUs will be coming in june I believe.
have a look on the OCUK pcs, and play around with options, try the link by feronix. the basic case is pants. but the Fractal Core cases are ok for budget. I belive you can ask OCUK to supply another case from their site, there are loads to choose from. don't rush keep posting here you will get plenty of answers

you can see if you can edit the post and delete it, if not don't worry some admin will do it anyway.

Yeah I've been having a play with different options. What's people's thoughts on new gpu,s as in will there be big drops in price on old cards or will the new ones be a lot better? I don't mind saving another month or 2. And spending £250-300 on a card. If it's worth it.

Crap case, crap psu and a 970 is not that much better than the 780 that he had. No overclocking either which means that if he had a unlocked i5 previously then it might have been faster than this new build.

Both. Nothing stopping you putting together a PC now with a £20 (or 2nd hand) back up GPU.

Having a backup GPU in your long term PC spare parts tool kit is useful anyway.

There are different case options in that link.

Only for the case and none of the others are particularly good although the Aerocool QS-240 isn't too bad and actually knocks a couple of pounds off the price. Still stuck with a poor psu though.

I think that to get the best bang for buck the op should seriously consider building his own. It's not that difficult plus there are loads of guides and we are always here to help. He would certainly end up with a better pc for his money.

Agreed that building his own PC would probably be best.

A pre-built on his budget though, you're not going to find much better than that and anything with an i5 and a GTX 970 will have a cheapo case and PSU to fit within that price bracket.

That's basically what I was trying to say (maybe I went the wrong way around going on about £1000) but the thing is, he sold a i5/GTX780 pc and for £800 he's not going to get something that's much better than what he had in the first place.

So what could I get if I was to build myself? I don't have a soldering iron. Would I get mother board and cpu/ram all in a bundle all made up?
I might wait and see what happens when new cards come out.

You don't need to solder anything dude! Most of it is just latches and clips these days. Couple screws here and there and you're golden :)

Look up some tutorials on YouTube, you'll see it's a lot easier than what you apparently think it is!
