My wife was organising her photo's the other day into albums when suddenly, her phone decided it would be a great idea to delete her entire gallery, over 3000 photos, some of which are sentimental, i tried using Wide data recovery but it wouldn't find her phone when plugged into the USB. What other options do i have? Is Recuva any good?

Sorry to say, but if it's internal storage then you might be stuffed. Due to the way the phone is recognised on a PC, Recuva won't detect it (at least a Nexus 5 I tried to restore files from wouldn't). The may be an app to restore files directly on the phone, though restoring all 3000 photos is unlikely. Did you/she not have a cloud backup?

She hasn't got a Google photos account has she, I think that has a setting to upload photos to Google from your phone and delete the originals, I wonder if that has been activated if present

A friend of mine had that happen on his edge as well, and couldn't recover it. It worth trying, but i wouldn't get my hopes up if i was you.

Yeah, I deleted my gallery but got all my images "back" as they were in google photos and in the cloud.

Wouldn't be without this these days. It's saved me on more than one occasion. Set to upload on wifi/charging only. Set and forget.

Thanks, she hasn't had any cloud backup set up, i've set it up for her now though, too little too late though, she has some important pics on there :(

The phone isn't even a year old yet, i wonder if Samsung would do anything to help.

There are a couple of apps on the store that require you to root your phone, is it safe these days?

its safe to root. I have used these apps in the past and it did recover the images I wanted but some of them also corrupted. sorry I cant remember the name of them but I did manage to get the photos back I wanted

We managed to root her phone and salvaged about 300 photos of the 3000 odd she had, fortunatley, the ones she wanted were there, shame she has lost her photo's from our last holiday to NZ / Oz and Dubai though :(. Fortunately, i've got all mine backed up anyway :)

Another good example of why you should always backup everything. With things like Google Photos being so easy and free (!) there really is no excuse!

I always at lest back up my mobile phone photo's to my PC....

I once had one of my mobile phones stolen so i also lost the photo's that were on it..

When Photos has unlimited store, works amazingly well, use it.. She could have lost the photos just as much if someone stole the phone. As above, set it to backup on charge only and on WiFi :) I also use foldersync to backup to my unraid server at home every night, but that's probably a step too far for most people.

Try Disk Digger in the play store used it after a memory card corrupted whilst on holiday, recovered all photos apart from the last 2 I took as well as deleted images from the internal memory.

What he said

To OP I'm glad you got some back. Short of physical memory failure it's strange that you have not recovered most of them unless they were over written. Not recovered data off phone memory before though.
