Air con service

2 Years seems soon to me?

I didn't do mine on the Mazda until it was 5.

Is it still blowing cold without any nasty smells?

Ac systems should actually be serviced annually to keep them running at their best with the correct amount of freon. Just like they should be ran 24/7 with your climate control.

I think the idea is they like you to anti bac them just so it isn't getting anything nasty building up inside, but if it isn't blowing smelliness and is still icy cold I wouldn't worry to much :)

Annually? Don't be daft. Maybe if it never gets used.

I wouldn't spend any money 'servicing' a 2 year-old air con system which is otherwise functioning perfectly well. Maybe buy one of the anti-bacterial 'bomb' sprays from eBay for a few quid every year to keep it fresh but that's about all you need to do on a properly, regularly used system IMHO.

The AC in my old Mondeo (2004 car) still blew about 4C at the vents after me owning it for 4 years, and there being no record of it ever being done before that. Keep the climate control on and keep the AC on, and it won't trouble you unless a component fails or springs a leak.

If your A/C is working fine then leave alone, bar a pollen filter change and perhaps a bacterial cleaner.

You probably have more chance of them coursing issues by adding too much oil or getting moisture into the system.

Ford wanted to service mine on my 3 year old Fiesta ST (at the cost of £50!). I told them not to bother. AC works fine, so why waste the money?

If you need to clean out nasty smells or bacteria, you can buy some spray for about £5 and do it yourself.

I made the same post in the Audi thread last week IIRC, I told them I wouldn't be having it done, as I dont really use the air-con. Maybe for a week in the summer if we get lucky :p

Looks like the dealers' AC servicing is aimed at people like you who don't use the system as it should be used :p

How should AC be used? I personally don't have climate control but do have air con, I only turn the ac on when opening a window slightly doesn't cool me down enough.

Same here. Mine is on/off with no climate control. So it rarely gets used. When it's hot I prefer to open the windows and get some wind in my face :D

I could quite happily go without AC at all now.

Well it does more than just 'cool you down', it dries the air. So it's as useful on crappy rainy days as it is in the blazing sunshine.

If the air con needs servicing then I would think it will be part of the standard service schedule. If the air con is not working and needs re-gassing it can be done for less than £50. Audi clearly need to drum up some business!

Leave it on all the time - it conditions the incoming air and the climate control system in your Audi is sensible enough to cycle the compressor and vary the temperature of the incoming air as needed.

Otherwise buy a Ford Ka with no AC.
