How do people deal with the buying car/selling car money dilemma?

Looked around your area on AT and that one does look the best to be fair.

Check the usual, tyres, odd noises, smoking, service history (and any other paperwork), damage, alloy condition. Obviously get them to take you out in it.

Recent MoT didn't show any advisories which is a bonus.

VW are particularly bad at this but even people who ordered lowly Cactus leases have been waiting 10 weeks with no firm date.

Imagine that. Waiting 10 weeks for a Citroen Cactus. Haha.

Probably worth pointing out that if you are disregarding mileage, aim for a 325 or 330 rather than 323 or 328.

The M52 was never the best engine.

Got to disagree there,I've ran 3 M52's in e36,e38 and e39 guise, never had a problem with any of them, the M54 in my last 530 was never right no matter how much I tried to sort it.

Imo the M52 is one of BMW's better lumps.

I'm not disregarding the mileage...the car that seems to be the best one is actually the one with the fewest miles on, and for a reasonable price. Not sure if it's too cheap, but I'll certainly do my best to work it out when I go look at it.

That would suggest that it's a relatively "in demand" model, but either overpriced, or has something putting buyers off. Got a link to the advert?

I think it's correctly priced. I had it on at £1,595, but realised it would get a hell of a lot more exposure coming in at £1,500 because that's how you can refine the price on AT.

I'd likely omit the "5+ owners" from the advert. Any buyer is going to see this on the V5, or ask you about it directly.

You might want to mention rust (or lack of). The mk2s tend to rot underneath quite badly I believe, and buyers will probably be wary of it.

Well the car I was looking at has sold. There is, however, a 328Ci that I'm very interested in, so I'll probably go and have a look tomorrow and offer a tad under the asking price if the car looks good.

The advert looks fine but to be honest the pricing seems a bit high (I have no idea how much these sell for) for something that old with that many miles.

Paint work and interior don't look like they're in great shape either. The outside could do with some polishing because as it is, looks like it lived its life in a mechanical car wash

Hmm fair comment regarding the paint work. I think it's been quite carefully looked after, but it's been aroud for a few years so it does have some imperfections. I think mostly it's just that it hasn't been pedantically waxed.

I'd say pricing is in the right ball park.

I paid £950 for mine last year with similar mileage but 3 years older, and it isn't a special edition.

The body work is better than mine, it's go a mohair hood with no tears
