Get rid of Bank Hols?

leaving all the utm source tags on the URL, he's going to think it's the most successful spam marketing email ever..

Generally this is the case but I suspect there are some couples who work alternating weekends and such, who might benefit from that.

Saying that, the type of work that involves working weekends probably involve working bank holidays too.

well yes ergo they'll benefit even more from having flexible days to use as they please

in fact lots of people these days would benefit, not just the companies... more days to use to get a whole week or two booked off and go away somewhere - lots of people want to book holidays around bank holidays and in plenty of work places that means people lose out - if you're not providing cover and not on holiday then you've suddenly got a day or two that you wouldn't have taken off and could have used to book a complete week off some other time

With how working hours/days have become more variable, the current structure is messy.

Take the Good Friday and Easter Monday bank holidays. Great for those who work Mon-Fri, they get a 4 day break, but for those that have to work Saturday, they've used two days leave that does not allow them do do much out of the ordinary.

I think keeping Xmas; Boxing; New Years Day as bank hols is fine. The other five days, I think many would prefer to take them as an extra week off that suits them.

I work in retail and work nearly every bank holiday 10am to 4pm :(

I also work 3 Saturdays in a row. which gets me Tuesday and Sunday off

Lucky me eh :(

I used to work in retail, I got a slightly elevated hourly rate, but had to work them if put on that shift.

Then I left retail and that no longer applies :)

Home PC tech support via phone and remote sessions.

Yeah, i think it is the standard for IT support to be available on bank holidays and i would imagine being flexible to work hours comes with the territory of both being able to work remotely and having to be available to customers who require support at times which can be outside a normal work schedule. I have been looking into new EPOS and data systems for the company i work for and they all offer bank holiday support as well as almost 24 hour support. It is pretty important as if one of the shop tills go down on a bank holiday, it would cost a lot of business as well as make the cost of the staff working there go to waste.

Opposite to my experience. AFAIK we don't attend retail outlets to resolve issues with EPOS systems during heightened sales periods, because the technician gets in the way. Mostly retailers just carry enough technology to get through it with a certain percentage unavailable.

I have never worked for a company which has observed public holidays, they just get added into your allowance, which is great as you can take holidays when you want!

Is everyone missing the fact that this piece is a clickbait advert for a HR automation/outsourcing company?

I've worked the last few - been paid a decent amount extra to work them and got an extra days (also paid) holiday out of them so keep them I say :D

In all seriousness though how miserable a person do you have to be inside to propose getting rid of them :s we need more novelty in our lives not less.

I didn't miss it, I didn't even look at it as that was how it was described in the OP. I took it that this was just a reason to start a discussion rather than us actually discussing the content of the link :)

Yep! It was something that I thought was worthy of discussion - however I have edited the link to remove all the cookie stuff :)

Lol written by their brand marketing manager...

Really, they would have more luck selling that software if they tried improving its ease of use with bank holidays in mind, over saying that we should get rid of them to make HR easier.

That is clearly written by someone who doesn't understand people or how they work. People need time off an having days where everyone gets it off at the same time has a huge amount of intangible value to society.

Just a shame they're a normal day for people in our industry! They do make sense though.

My only real issue with bank holidays, is that they still apply to banks.

99% of retailers are open on bank holiday (possibly with reduced opening), yet bank branches are not.
Not only does this mean that people who have the day off, still can't go see the bank manager or whatever, but it also means that the shops that are open are unable to bank their takings for an extra day. On the Easter holiday this is even worse, because all takings from Thursday until Monday night are in the safe until they can be taken to the bank on Tuesday.

Rename them public holidays, and don't give banks a free pass to stay closed :(
