GT86.................... Shooting Brake

Why?! Can they stop faffing with this sort of malarkey and get the next supra out already.

Edit; just seen its a concept not production. nevermind then

agreed. I really like sporty toyotas, but they stooped making cars that interest me in the early 2000's. Why they think this niche is better than a cabrio or turbo'ed version i don't know. They must look at people buying ugly hatch backs on mass and think that's where they should be focusing their efforts.

Reliant Scimitar anyone

I'd consider one if my current one gets written off... considering the GT86's rear is designed to take a set of 4 track tyres it's a pain trying to get them through the tiny opening.

Just bring out the BRZ STi though!

The Vauxhall SportsHatch based on the 2 door Magnum estate was essentially a shooting brake, I'd love one of those.

No thanks.

The rear seats in the GT86 are hardly cramped, what is exactly the point in this? It's just a GT86 with a raised rear roof?

It looks terrible. It doesn't work as well as I thought it might....it has a hint of an FF about it but its poorly resolved.

Indeed, you can actually get adult humans in the back, but if you also have adult humans in the front then "cramped" is the perfect word I'd use to describe them. If I'm driving, the car is at best a 3 seater as mine has to be all the way back (unless you like kangaroo gear shifts :p).

Interestingly, someone on PH has bumped the thread from a couple of years ago when this idea was first rumoured, and a lot of people expressed interest, saying they like the idea of a GT86, but more practical. However, the concept shots back then actually looked pretty good, whereas the real car hasn't really pulled it off quite as well:

Original article shots from 2013 (CarThrottle):

It's not going to happen anyway. One of the biggest criticisms of the GT86 is that it's outperformed by most modern hot hatches, so the main reason to own one was that you didn't want a hatchback.
So if you did want a hatchback, then you probably wouldn't be looking at a GT86 anyway (aforementioned PH posters aside).
