What used to be a UK
..prior to trying to use his neck for a meal.

The Shepherd charged at my collie (which was on a lead), jumped over it and turned, pinning it to the ground prior to sinking its teeth in to its neck. I kicked the shepherd twice but it wouldn't budge leaving me to take my anger out on the owner and getting him to sort his dog (who crapped it on having to deal with it). Luckily for me the collar on my collie must have acted as some sort of barrier so my dog is fine . There is just so many morons walking around with dogs who can't or don't know how to control them.

Get a proper dog = problem solved?

:p

However yes, i'm swift becoming an advocate of a dog ownership license. Especially given some of the plonkers that live near me.

Those German shepherds, they're a bloody menace.

One of the standout memories of my childhood is when out with my mum (must have been 7 or so) with our Irish setter (Lady Dragonfly was her kennelclub name :p) on a lovely sunny Sunday and a pitbull or similar charged out of the pub and grabbed her by the neck. There was no contest and Lady went down while the other dog just held on to her neck.

Some shaven headed **** stain perched in the door said "don't worry, it'll be quick" Obviously a bit peeved at the whole situation I grabbed a bottle and whacked the other dog over the head repeatedly while mother dear was screaming her head off, neither of which touched the attacking dog.

Fortunately one of our neighbors was drinking there too and came to our aid with the end of a pool cue, using it as a lever to prise it's jaws open (then smash it's head in)... Lady and my mother were never the same going out for walks tbh

Quite frankly the scariest thing that's happened in my life, and I've been in a fair few fights since

That's horrible to hear but atleast the dog walked away from it.

My mum has 5 dogs in total 2 labs, a springer, husky and apparently a pedigree staff but it has a lot of pit bull look in him. None of them would ever hurt a anyone or thing. She also has 6 chickens so that says something about them.

They've been attacked a few times in the past but since having all 5 we take them over a private lake we have access to so no other dogs around anymore. The husky was once attacked by two boxers off leads in a field luckily the owner was on my mums side and beat the boxers off of her and deeply apologised.

A Rottweiler attacked one of the labs and the owner was a **** about it. Granted both were off leads at the time but the rottty pinned him down and drew blood. All whilst my lab was still trying to lick and sniff the rotty to death.

The most recent and last attack was on the staff when he was a pup, a pitbull was pulling him around by his back leg poor guy was limping for weeks. Owner ran over and one swift boot it let go and ran off.

I'm all for a license to own any pet tbh some people just can't care properly for them through no fault of there own. One thing that's really pees me off if the sterotyping of breeds, like pitbull a, rottys and staffs etc. I know I have examples but it's just because they are the most powerful ones that actually can scare. There has been countless encounters with little tiny dogs like ****zus that get bitey and attack but the don't damage or are really easy for anyone to control.

this + strong penalties for noncompliance

there are too many idiots out there who don't know how to look after dogs, not a problem if they've got a pug but when the most popular breeds are bull terriers then having a lots of owners who don't train/control their dogs and/or neglect and abuse them leads to dangerous dogs.

example this was posted on facebook:

yes it is funny but also the owner is an idiot for even once tolerating the dog trying to bite her or control her actions like that

Just part of Dog ownership imo. If the Shepherd had really wanted to, it would have torn your dog's throat out in about 5 seconds.

That being said, I don't want to come across like I'm all for people having their dogs run wild. The problem is that even the best trained animals can still act unusually given a certain set of circumstances. I work my Lab on a game shoot, and every once in awhile, one of the dogs will have a go at another - and they don't come much better trained than gundogs.

Anyway, hope your Collie is ok.

Horrible to hear.

I witnessed a similar thing when I was a kid, although the small dog got maualled to death. Round the neck, they couldn't save the dog :( scars you for life if your a dog lover

As a German Shepherd owner I know how fast and strong they are, they also weigh a ton, If your dog was anything smaller it probably would have killed it, How did it let go?

Was the german shepherd owner not using a lead for his dog, I'm guessing it was a chav type of person?

By that logic we should probably ban a whole lot of humans as well...

There's no need to own such an animal though, just like average Joe's don't need to own a handgun in this country.

Why is it that more or less every owner of a "dangerous" animal I've come across has been a complete mouth breathing pleb?
