If you spotted your idol, would you go up to them?

Walking down the street? No, they have their own private life and should be able to enjoy it.
After an "official" event of some sort then probably yes.

I don't have an idol. But there are a number of people I admire. For example if I saw Buzz Aldrin then I would want to shake his hand.

A few years back about one of my colleagues who works on a Firearms unit was at an event where they were doing VIP protection. After the main event they were at the reception and they started talking to some pleasant old guy - about all sorts of things, turns out he was American and they just chatted about how nice things were over here etc.

When he left they shook hands and he walked away. Someone approached the Officer and asked them if they knew who they were talking to? 'No' came the reply. They were then told it was Buzz Aldrin :)

Have seen Harry Enfield and Ade Edmonson at a pub I frequent after work on several occasions. While I'm a big fan, I also know how ****ed off I'd be if people kept interrupting my having a pint with a few mates, so I leave them to it.

Well I have been lucky as a young lad to speak with both Gilles Villeneuve and Ayrton Da Silva (aka Senna) who were pretty big heroes in my youth. I spotted Gilles in the pit garage at Silverstone in 1981, in the days when you could just walk up to the back of a garage still and had 5 minutes with him and I met Ayrton 3 times in his F3 season the third time he remembered me. You remember that stuff as a teenager and back then he wasn't famous but bloody obvious he was going to be as he was special and even then had an aura I've rarely seen in people before or since.

Depends, I've seen a few famous people I wanted to say hello to. It all depends on the look on their face or body language. If they look like they want to be left alone I will just keep on walking, the same if they are eating somewhere I wouldn't dream of going over. If I really wanted to meet them then maybe I'd wait outside.

He wasn't my idol but some years ago I was in the Roebuck on Richmond Hill with my father when one of Mick Jagger's chums, a world famous rock star in his own right, came in. The pub was deserted absent us, and my father pointed him out to me. I said something along the lines of, "Let him enjoy his pint in peace." and got a grateful look in return.

You lot idolise other people?
why lol

I don't idolise anyone, but I did have people who I looked up to as a kid and look up to due to their actions today. Victoria Cross winners for example, I think their actions should earn them my respect and appreciation.

Some of them have done fantastic things that the majority of us could only dream of?

I can't say I really idolise anyone but there are plenty of famous folk I'd like to have a conversation with, I understand social skills aren't your strong point though.

Met, chatted with (on several occasions) had dinner with mine. Sir Terry Pratchett.
So many interests and a sharper wit than what you get in the books. His passing hit me quite hard, more so than I was expecting.

I don't have an idol as such but if I saw someone who's work I liked then depending on the situation, I may just say hi, loved the work you do and leave it at that.
