I actually feel upset and sick :(

So Kaap, do you think that there will be anything left in the tank after the 2.1 Ghz OC? Maybe they ramped it up to blow AMD out of the water on OCing and this is the limit.

I thinking the same I do think if you clocked the 980ti and 1080 the same there wouldn't be a lot between them and someone posted a while back on a forum that pascal is maxwell on 16nm with slight improvements.

I think the biggest difference is going to be in newer stuff with more advanced shader features, etc. where those slight tweaks will allow for better efficiency clock for clock - in older games I don't think there will be so much in it partly due to Pascal having to put a certain amount of stuff back in/improved using up space that can't then be used to boost contemporary performance.

2.1 ghz is already nearly 400mhz more than the stock boost clock!

It's a very good, very powerful card that's going to enable you to play games at high levels for years to come. Don't feel bad about what you don't have and which no-one has right now, be really happy about the awesome bit of technology that you do.

that's right it's a fantastic card indeed, though at the price it's still selling at the 1070 launches in 4 weeks and at a fraction of the cost offers the same performance, runs cooler has more Vram and uses less power (y) AMD could be in trouble with both the 1070 and 1080 as the 1070 will be competitive against AMDS best card whilst the 1080 will just sit at the top

Long story short I built my very first gaming PC a few weeks ago, I bought a lovely 980 TI GPU. However, I just heard a new GPU has just come out which is x2 better than the 980 Ti which I just purchased.

Should I of waited? I feel bad now, I got this GPU but now a new GPU has just been released which is practically 980 Ti in a SLI in a single card.

Going by word of the mouth only from Nvidia, the new 1080 is a slightly more powerful OC'd 980Ti with DP1.4 and better energy efficiency. It most certainly isn't 980Ti SLI.

You've got nothing to worry about. No one with a 980Ti at the moment is upgrading for this card, and if they are they're a bit thick.

Give it 18 months, allow the Pascal architecture to go through the motions, then see what the Ti equivalent looks like. By then you'll also have the hardware to match the new GPU i.e 4K Monitors which have DP1.3/1.4!

a bit thick? I've just sold my 980 Ti for this card that doesn't make me thick.... if you know when to sell that helps as I've not long sol my 980 Ti for £500 I wont have to put anything towards the 1080 so in my eyes is a free upgrade I don't mind being without a gpu for 4 weeks whilst I use my laptop with a 680m in it....

I would love a 980Ti in my rig but you get what you can at the time otherwise wait your life away and achieve nothing. Loads of folks will be looking at your speak with envious eyes.
Enjoy.

Whatever floats your boat mate. If you're getting a reasonable price for it and you have the time and patience to go through the selling process then kuddos.

You'd then have to question the intelligence of the person buying the second hand 980Ti for that 'reasonable' price when these GPU's are just round the corner. Works both ways.

Common sense though is anyone who has the 980Ti should stick with it till the Pascal equivalent is out. You'll find far bigger gains and all the flaws ironed out from the 1080/1070 launch. Likewise if you've got a 970 equivalent or below, by all means upgrade to the 1070. The 980Ti has just been made obsolete to new buyers though unless it drops price by 50% at a minimum.

the 980ti is still going to be a great card for the next 2-3 years.

Unless you're trying to run 4k at 60fps you've got no reason to moan.

This is absolute nonsense. You've got no numbers to back that up at all. Did the 780ti immediately become obsolete once the 980 was announced? Calm down...

No, but it did when it got released. Sold off for £300 right after the 900 series came out

You do when you find out a card is about to come out a month or so after purchased your 980Ti that will cost about £200 less, provide the same performance with more vram, run cooler and quieter consuming less electric and get better driver support going forward.

I'd be cheesed too. And rightly so.
