Anyone miss the area they moved from?

think the hardest thing about moving away is the thought of it . doing it is quite easy , maybe its a little scary but then again to me the thouht of growing old in west yorkshire was terrifying (not knocking huddersfield btw some amazing countryside on the doorstep but i was from heckmondwike)

Well I wouldn't miss family as I'm quite secluded as it is. Not sure how familiar you are with the areas around here but, I grew up in Sheepridge and until we was forced to move. I haven't lived anywhere yet that some sort of chav hasn't tried having a confrontation with me.

My biggest issue is I'll never have enough money to move away. I lack the qualifications to get any good jobs. Even if I could get on with a council in another area, finding work would be the biggest issue. Not that I have any idea this could be made possible anyway. :p

lived most of my life in mirfield and went to huddersfeild tech but dont know area realy well.
im on min living wage down here but where i work is 4 day 3 day rotating weeks ie. 3day weekend followed by a 4 day weekend so its more about lifestyle than a great job . surprisingly cheap to live down here .

Ah right, well unless you've heard of Fartown or Deighton, you wouldn't know the area :p. It's a trouble hot spot though. Hope you don't mind but, I send you a little Trust message.

I grew up in the far west of Cornwall, Penzance until I was 12 then we moved to Newlyn. I left at 23 to join the RAF as there was little in the way of decent jobs locally. I miss it very much, especially the sea but can't afford to move back home now as it is so expensive these days.

I miss the place, the people, not so much.
I was born and grew up in Dundee, always liked the place, never had any love for the pond scum that makes up the majority of the housing schemes... but being home, i always found it easy to over look that and see the better side of the place.
I've lived in many places over the last decade, from Dundee my hometown, to plymouth and numerous places in between, only place i truly liked other than home was Leeds, everywhere else never really seemed comfortable or homely, I dont think it was anything to do with the towns/citys i lived in, more in my head than anything.
I'm keen to move back to Dundee, if i can secure a decent job up there in the next few years, it would just be nice to be closer to famliy, the majority of which still lives there.

Moved from Gillingham / Rainham Kent to a small seaside resort called Mablethorpe in Lincolnshire back in 1989. I was there 6 years and hated it. Luckily I moved on and am settled now in Binbrook Lincolnshire.

I wish I never left the south but I could never go back. The place has changed so much in the 27 years I have been gone.

South West in a lot of parts - never mind the popular tourist places - has become really expensive especially in comparison to wages - in the last 10 years since I moved back to my parents with partly the intention of saving for a house I've watched rents and house prices go ballistic while most people are lucky to have seen more than a tiny increase in pay and largely there has been wage depression.

....

That was my instinctive reaction, though after more than 27 years.

But then I got to wondering .... how much was it the place that had changed, and how much was it me that had changed?

Partly it's the place, for sure. Everywhere's changed over several decades. But I suspect the places I was born and raised have changed at much the same rate and in the same way over the whole country. I suspect mainly it's me that's changed.

It's almost like it's not locals buying houses but townies.

We've recently had improvements to transport links and other amenities/developments as well as new builds and the prices have gone nuts - neighbour had offers in the mid 400 thousands for a house that not long ago was valued around 150K - renting it out now for around 1800 a month instead.

Exactly, I i no way miss the people, but the town I grew up in was arranged well... Small grocery store, bank, Doctor, used to be a drug store & gas station also within walking distance of the houses... Small park close to all that also...

My home town has changed beyond recognition in the 20 years since I left and I suspect I have too. Go back to visit family regularly and still see the same people I knew 30 years ago in the same dead end jobs, getting plastered in the same pubs at the weekend.

yeah i recently friended a load of people i hung out with in my late teens after the surprise death of an old mate. They are still going to the same pubs, clubs and dives. We are all approaching our 40s now... lol. Mind Blowingly sad. :D

If you don't like it you need to change it. Unless you plan to stick it out for the rest of your life just to keep peace.....

That's my 2 cents fam. spend it wisely.

I personally used to live up north (uk) and now live right on the southern coast where my job is. I'm now considering job options for moving back up north. It's not the place so much as the people I miss. And the house prices - Jesus Christ.

There's a safe compromise -- go to Rhyl! ;)
