Probably eligible for the most boring post of 2016 award, but can any Geordie yokels tell me if there are any non-multi storey car parks around Newcastle centre?

Happy to walk a little further to avoid using multi storey.

Claremont Road just past the hospital is where I tend to park if wanting to avoid the multi storeys.
Little bit of a walk to centre but not too far and you can usually get parked okay most of the time

Either of those mentioned or beside the Civic centre or between Northumbria Uni and the City Hall.

We have a parking app now - was on the radio, forgotten its name - that can direct you to spaces, although I'm guessing it'll mostly be for multi-storey parking.

What time are you arriving and how long do you plan on staying? Obviously all of the non-multi story car parks typically fill up quick on a weekday morning with commuters.

I recommend the place between the civic centre and Northumbria too. Or the place between city hall and the uni library. Cheap. Big spaces. Easy access to the city centre.

Gateshead side of the Quayside. There are legit car parks and also if you are lucky can park for free on the side of the road just up from baltic place offices I think.

Plus on a nice day its a nice walk into town via the quayside, I'd say about a 10min walk, with an uphill bit to get you into the city centre if you like a bit of a challenge :)

Newcastle City Council have totally ruined the roads in the city centre. Bus lanes popping up all over and if you so much as touch one you'll get a ticket in the post.

If you are not used to city centre driving then stay clear and get the Metro in.

I usually park on Claremont Road or Leezers Road next to the RVI hospital, couple of small carparks but it's hit and miss if you can get a space down there or not.

Out of nothing but sheer interest, whats wrong with multi storeys?

Tiny spaces, expensive, no room to manouver, door dents...whats not to like? :p

This. We normally get the train in from Hartlepool (£12 for us both), 2 weeks ago she suggestd we drive, against better judgement I obliged. My god, I'm not used to city driving. I dread to think how many bus lanes I entered - I'm dreading the postman

We parked in I think, John Dodds? Thankfully we arrived at 8.59am which meant £6, after 9am it was something silly like £15?

Thanks for the extra suggestions chaps.

TL;DR I'm a crap city driver.

next time take my advice and park on a residential street near stanhope street! all the suits park near NE4 5RY near Douglas terrace every morning

From Hartlepool, next time I'd likely come off the a19 and along to Heworth metro station and jump on the metro.

If you don't know the city centre these days it's a bad place to find yourself. Good luck with the postman mate, there's been hell on about those bus lanes.

i'll 2nd the St James' call, it's half the price of the others. there's a load if you look on parkipedia or just goog maps, round the stadium/Barker & Stonehouse/Eldon Gardens area, they can fill up quick though as they get a lot of parking from hospital visitors. The one by Exhibition Park is Ok if you don't mind a bit of a walk, but this can fill up quick too.
short version, if it's a weekday, and not a match day, try and get to the stadium early

btw the iceland on stanhope street has a car park at the back thats always empty, 10min walk down to st james or 15 mins to the city centre or eldon square.

What time of day are you wanting to park?

After 6.30pm you can park on Grey street for nowt all evening :) Doesn't get more central than that.

Also some places nearby around the back of Carliol Square also free after 6.30pm.

If it is daytime then you will be stung.

I personally use the gate in day time hours. Yeah its kind of multi-storey but the spaces are plenty wide enough and it's nice and secure, plus doesn't cost a bomb.
