reason i ask is that i am looking at getting an xonar U& but on their website it says that DDL is not supported now in windows 10

It depends on your soundcard.

I can confirm that SoundBlaster Z and X-Fi Prelude both work with Dolby Digital Live in Windows 10. Other soundcard providers haven't necessarily got around to sorting it out yet.

looking at getting either a creative Sound Blaster X-Fi 5.1 Pro or the xonar U7

I get full surround sound from my Asus Xonar in 10.
