What used to be a UK
..... and have just found a lot of people on Amazon claiming that when you order you really need to purchase a size up/larger? I mean if there is an issue with sizes regarding fit., why the heck couldn't Merrill have given an indication prior to people placing their orders? A minor rant but just wonder if anybody has had any issues regarding getting the correct sizes to fit with the above mentioned shoe?

Were the sizes UK, EU or US sizes? Directly from Amazon? If the former, then just try them on and return for replacement if they don't fit. But if you had them ordered from a seller using Amz as a platform, at times they do gaff with the info.

I have ordered UK 8.5 (which is US 43) which is the correct size but it seems everyone is blaming Merrill. Some companies expect you to be psychic. They'll be arriving Friday and it is too late to change during transit. Need the correct size for next week also :(

Edit: The High Street would have been preferable but not enough shops with enough decent gear.

Good point. I still have an old pair of running shoes, same size obv, but the left one is a bit funky! Careful measurement returned shenanigans! ¬_¬

This is why brands should choose who they outsource manufacturing to carefully and check what they're outputting.

When you design a garment you can go out and spend several thousand on some standard sizing dummies. When your factory makes a sample from your design you compare to the dummy to see if its correct.

Some companies just don't design to standards, don't check the output before submitting 1000s unit order or the factory out in the far east ends up cocking up (or even the factory secretly sub contracts out to a completely different factory).

Its why sizing regularly varies between brands (or even varying consistency within the same brand).

It seems to vary a bit - when I got my Merrells a lot of people were claiming you'd need a size up but though a tiny bit snug they were fine at the same size as I'd normally get.

I found the same thing with my altbergs.. went for the correct size for my feet, found that I really should have got half a size larger.

It has nothing to do with QC of the shoes, everything to do with the mould they use to make their shoes. Different companies have different foot "shapes" they base their shoes/boots off. For example, taking ski boots as an example but the same system applies for all shoes/boots:

Two major brands of ski boots, Salomon and Technica. Salomon foot shapes/moulds are longer, narrower and generally lower volume than Technica, which are generally the widest and highest volume on the market. Basically for the same sized boot the fit and shape are totally different, one is much wider and higher than the other.

It's why you should try boots/shoes on before buying if you're getting them from a different brand. The alternative is to pretty much just stick with the brand you wear when buying online, as you know they fit and you know what size you are. I can be anything from a size 9-11 depending on which brand I buy, all depends on the shape of their moulds.

My Merrells are the same size as I usually wear in a shoe and they are very slightly slack but a half size smaller was too neat.

I checked my local Blacks recently and they had quite a choice of Merrell shoes but the pricing was just LOL. I was straight on amazon after leaving... :p

And I read the reviews before ordering mine. I went just half a size larger and they are very snug indeed.

I wear a pair of Merrells as my daily shoes and find they fit as well as any other brand. I'm a 9 in pretty much every brand, however last week I got some boots from Clarks in a 9 thinking they'd fit and they were like clown shoes. I took them back to a store and the girl said that that model comes up pretty big. I ended up in a 7.5!
