No Takers for VR: TechPowerUp New GPU Survey

Nah VR's uses go beyond the gamer in fact what I learned at VRWC is that it's uses in business far surpass it's uses in games at the moment.

No one wants VR, yet the supply is not enough to fill the demand. Damn they really need to make more than 1 a day.

The TV manufacturers raved about 3D a few years back. It's a feature that has been mostly dropped on the latest models.

I wonder if VR will share the same fate.

If they do not bring the cost down to £300 or less it might. They are too expensive and once the initial rush dies off, the sales will be slow due to the price.

As it is, there needs to be much better games out that make it a must buy. There currently is no killer app in my opinion. This is why I will probably wait for the second versions to come out in a year or so, unless such killer app does come along while waiting. By then there will be a nice library of content available, coupled with better technology with a cheaper price tag :D

Very interesting pie chart.
Interesting that Nvidia have dedicated a large chunk of their marketing of the 1070/1080 to VR performance. Whereas really they should have been pushing to show how much better it is for 4K. (thats what interests me the most).

I agree, that its not really shows the interest in VR, as the question is not "Do you want to try VR" but what is the most important thing you want from your GPU.

Fair comment. I am still waiting for my Rift that was coming to me on March 28th :(

My mate cancelled his rift order after they couldn't deliver his until the 20th of May at the earliest. Ordered a Vive on the 12th of April and received it a week ago. Some people are getting there rift as late as July which is BS for a pre-order done minutes after they went live. No messing about with him, used his wallet to show what he thought of them. Told them he was off to Vive in a not so complimentary email :D.

Don't blame him and if I don't get it next week, I will cancel mine and ponder my thoughts. I have said it loads and will say it again.... This is the worst tech launch in history that I have ever ever seen!!!

VR is futore of gaming and entertaiment and only person that have not tried it would say its not.

So far me and 3 of my mates GOT VR HELMETS and we all agree that it was worth every penny!!!! And we will be buying 1080 gpus most likely jumping from 970/980s !!!

Elite Dangerous and VR = heaven for me. Crazy how a game can get you so immersed it actually feels like you are flying a Spaceship.

I think you are both right and wrong. I've tried it, and yes its amazing. So immersive. And this will only increase as FOV gets bigger and screens become higher resolutions. I certainly WANT to game on in VR.

However, there will be many many many times when that just is not possible. Gaming on a monitor is FAR less anti-social. I can still talk to my wife while gaming on a monitor while she watches TV. No way can i sit with a VR headset on for hours at a time. Not knowing what my kid is doing or if the dog needs to go out.

I don't think for a second that VR will replace traditional gaming. Ever. but yes it will get taking up more.

4k OLED / Superwide, that's what the discerning gaming "enthusiast" with money wants.
Seems like it's a year away, then it's yet another, then another.

With a Vive you can see the whole room at a press of a button. So in theory you could keep the headset on and not be Anti Social :D:D:D. The camera doesn't have great resolution and has 2 modes. One lets you see your room from first person just like looking out of your eyes and mixes in with the game, the other mode gives you a small screen on top off your game. The first one is my favorite as you can pick up and drink beer easy enough.

VR is amazing you just need imagination and enthusiasm,
this year so far has been very dissapointing though, being stuck with 2 year old prototype hardware is no fun, I can see Oculus going out of business if they keep this up.

I do also want triple 4K OLED on a machine with a skylake 10 core cpu, 2 or 3 1080Tis, 2 480mm radiators etc
but not seeing any movement within the monitor market, there was that Dell model at CES but haven't seen it since

I checked a few days ago and some of the cheaper 1080p OLED tvs have been discontinued, not a good sign.
