Need Audio transmitter and receiver (not bluetooth)

I need an audio transmitter and receiver, I tried a bluetooth kit but the signal keeps dropping / is too unreliable.

Does anyone else have any clever solutions?

Be more specific, what do you actually want?
 
Basically need something portable (as in carry on person), convenient (eg small), self powered, way of sending audio from 1 person to another from a 3.5mm audio jack.
 
An MP3 player. (Sansa Clip+ comes to mind.)

Edit: for the other end do a search for portable audio recorder. They can get expensive.

A data logging device which outputs via audio (3.5mm jack) the expected output, which needs to be picked up by a guy looking at the actual outputs 10-20 meters away who needs to hear it via earpeice or headphones etc. So we currently pair the bluetooth tx/rx units, and i plug the tx into the 3.5mm jack and he plugs his earphones into the rx.

The problem is, the signal isnt great, so it keeps dropping, so need something more reliable.
