It looks like Nintendo NX is powered by a Nvidia chip:

There is some confusion about whether it is just the handheld component of the NX or both the parts, but still a good win for Nvidia.

Apparently, they nearly got into one of the Nintendo DS consoles with Tegra 2.

I assume it is just the handheld part. Would be daft for Nintendo to not go with AMD for the main console unless they don't fancy third party support again.

Going with a similar soc as ps4 at least means porting games should be easy for developers and they will likely get the third party support.

I would think that too,but the lady who was the source of one of the leaks and supposedly works closely with Nintendo said the console was definitely not X86. So,unless K12 is being used,I can only think of Nvidia who could do the job with an ARM CPU.

Thought tegra was dead?

:p:D

The article says is not going to use x86 tech, and then implies since no AMD x86 then no Polaris (huh). And the second article implies because of the previous article/leak, it will use Nvidia.

However who ever wrote this articles forgot that AMD produces ARM 64bit processors, the Opteron A1100 which is an A57 64bit, and the upcoming K12 which again is an ARM CPU.

Zen on the other hand is x86 CPU and not to be confused with K12.

So basically another clickbait set of articles.

According to Charlie over on SA,he pretty much confirmed Nvidia had the win.

You might joke, but Nintendo does have a way of doing oddball things - the Wii U had basically the same CPU as the Wii but three of them with a higher clockspeed, and one had more cache than the other. Plus,IIRC, the memory controller was only 32 bit or 64 bit so it had less memory bandwidth than a PS3.

I hope the rumour is not true. Really want them to use AMD and use something like the PS4, but on 16nm and a but more powerful. I want a console with 3rd party support if possible

It wouldn't surprise me if NV got a win on a new handheld but i think it would be suicide for Nintendo to go anything other than AMD for a new console.

I thought nVidia wasn't bothered about the consoles. Or i remember certain people saying this when AMD won playstation and xbox contracts. must have been wrong.

Ironically, a further rumour says the Nvidia are getting even worse margin than AMD did for XBO and PS4. Worse as in losses at first.
Maybe Nvidia need the 1080/1070 F's edition to pay for Nintende, so FE no longer stands for Fool's Editon, but rather
Subsidies For Nintendo's console Edition.

Good job on the worst of the consoles ;) Nintendo is on a downwards trend they need this console to do well or they going the way of Sega.

I would love to see some Nintendo games on other platforms though Haaa
