How do people deal with the buying car/selling car money dilemma?

To be fair "cheap" MX5s are an easy sell.

When I went to look at mine there we're two other people that turned up to look at it just as I was leaving for a test drive

Hey guys, thanks for the advice. I've put the car on eBay classified for a month in addition to AutoTrader - it is £14.99. I'll take a look at Gumtree too.

I'd be happy for even a dealer to call me hah! Not that they'd give me the money I need.

Frozennova, I imagine they sell themselves. I'm really confused as to why no one has contacted me, but I am trying to be patient hah - 400 views now.

So I bought a car! Girlfriend isn't happy as mine hasn't sold yet, but I'm confident it wlil be gone tomorrow afternoon.

The new motor is a BMW 325ti Compact, and it's lovely!

The compact really grew on my after we got the Mrs a facelift 318ti for the princely sum of £1200 12-months ago.

The 325ti is a nice balance of power and handling, enjoy it :)

What spec is it?

Excellent!, now where is our commission for giving you all that advice? :D

Get some pictures up of the new car

Hah you realised then how good it was? Thanks man. Erm I'm not sure what you mean by spec...it's the 2.5L straight 6...M sport model.

Haha you wish, I wouldn't be in this situation if I could be paying people commission.

Acme should read this thread on how car buying and selling is done ;)

Really? He must be really **** at selling cars.

It's the buying part he needs help in, go read the other thread if you have a free lunch hour, grab some popcorn as its still ongoing!

I've read a lot of that thread recently. My opinion is that he probably should have seen the car first, but cosmetic issues aren't necessarily worth fixing. Gonna go and get an update now though :D

I was more thinking along the lines of cloth/leather, climate or aircon, cruise control, multifunction wheel, etc.

I had to retrofit cruise control/multifunction wheel and on-board computer to ours, didn't cost me more than £25 in parts though (and an afternoon's faffing around with various sockets and tools :p)

Ah I see! It has cream leather, climate control (I think, not quite sure what the difference is), cruise control, the multifunction wheel, onboard computer. Don't know what else isn't standard to be honest!

Sadly, it has a tape deck and a currently inoperable 6 CD changer. That might get fixed, but realistically I'll be putting in a bluetooth aux connection, and a charger for my iPhone and will use that instead. Always hated CD changers.

Ah, climate control is a system whereby the car maintains the temperature which you set on the panel (digital panel in the E46). The manual A/C option is a single button that turns A/C on or off, along with three rotary dials (fan speed, fan direction, temperature). CC is the better system, unfortunately ours only has A/C and the retrofit process just isn't worthwhile (dashboard out job).

As for Audio, depending on what you want out of the system, you might be better off either getting the double-din relocation housing (moves the Climate/Aircon controls to the bottom, where you'll currently have a sunglasses holder). This opens up a world of options ranging from "Chinese" OEM looking units, to third-party "premium" manufacturers like Parrot (we have the Parrot Asteroid Smart system installed, after trying a cheaper Chinese unit - thanks for the recommendation mrk!)

Ah mine is only the air conditioning. It seems to be aiming at a certain temperature...but basically from what I can tell it just turns the fan on at the temperature you set it at, and then the veolcity it's set at.

I'm quite happy with the stereo staying how it is as I don't want to have it look OEM. I would like to put a newer stereo in there, perhaps just the one with a single CD slot in it, which would be a slightly newer one, but I'd be in for at least £300 if I wanted a kick ass OEM stereo. There's no way I can afford that!

I'll be doing a couple of minor mods. There are a few bits to sort out - rear brake pads and disks are very worn, the driver seat rocks a little bit, CDV delete, sunroof interior bit has come off it's tracks....all sounds like good fun to me!

Them compacts are ugly ducklings but very good value for money! Looks good for the age too.

Welcome to the world of e46, where little niggles have to be fixed every week :D

Did the car sell through AT or eBay?

The black ones aren't ugly :(:( stop being mean!

Hah well I sort of enjoy the niggles, as long as they're cheap to fix I'm really happy to have the chance to learn how to do stuff.

I bought and sold through AT.

Haha I'm sorry!

Yep most are cheap and diy-able. Plenty of youtube videos/forums to learn from. That's what I've done with mine when things crop up.
