Why does forum not go to last unread post?

This forum is incredibly unintuitive, I would use it more if it was easier to keep track of the threads I am actually interested in.

I use that all the time. That's how I get close. But, what is described below is what actually happens.

i was under the impression it gets it wrong because it's based on when you last viewed the forum and not when you last viewed a thread, so say you post in a thread at 8am then leave, then visit the forum at 12pm but don't view that thread you'd posted in. when you then visit again at 7pm it'll show you content since 12pm even though you never viewed the thread replies between 8pm-12pm. i may be wrong but that's the conclusion i came to when noticing the last viewed gets it wrong.

And I would perhaps keep up with a LOT more threads should the view new posts button work as it actually should.

It should always revert to the first unread post since my last visit to the THREAD. As it does it to the first unread post since my last visit, then if I don't visit every thread I'm interested in, every visit, then the button is essentially pointless.

I never noticed the button at the top of the actual thread though. I will try that out, but I suspect it works the same way as the button on the thread list. If not, then great, and I have a workaround. Otherwise it's just an extra pointless button to press.

EDIT: Just checked out the button in the thread, does work the same. I tested it with watch thread, that I haven't visited in months. Opened first page, hit button, showed first post since my logon this morning. Not first post since I last visited the thread many months ago.

To be honestly, I am surprised that it doesn't work properly here. A computer forum, about computer stuff, presumably made / administered by computer people, can't get this done like every other forum I'm on (which is, admittedly, usually car forums, by car people).

do you auto subscribe to threads you post in? one of the most important thing imo is to have that enabled. means that each time you visit you can click 'user CP' and then it'll show you all the threads you've posted in, as well as then allow you subscribe to other threads without posting, to keep up to date with them too.
