hi, my qashqai is in at developed clutch judder.

The vehicle is second hand

purchased
Dec 2015
I have done around 5k miles since ownership of vehicle.

developed Clutch judder (feels like wheels are spinning at times when pulling away)

Garage has rang me telling me warranty company wouldnt cover it. As they believe it could be the clutch friction plate.

Waiting to hear back from dealer manager.

Perrys

Is this tough luck on my part, having owned the vehicle for 5 months or so. Also took out there 'silver' warranty package.

thanks

I think they will class it as wear and tear for sure...however you could go down the road of them having to prove that within 5 months and only 5k worth of motoring that the clutch was 100% fine when they sold you it.

Is it an automatic or Manual? I was led to believe that Auto Clutches are sometimes covered through warranty as they shouldn't suffer like a manual.

^You're clutching at straws now..
ROFL ROFL

TBH, I've had clucthes last 130k +, however the missus mushed her Type R in 50k... so, tbh I think you're out of luck really... just push and push warranty etc saying to go that quickly isn't on... see what they say. If you don't push they'll walk over you.

However, if it were me and got no where, accept it and move on as it's on 60K+ so...

Purchased Dec 2015 on 67500 miles.
now on 72300 miles.

Spoke to Branch Manager at Perrys. Explained to him I am disappointed the clutch appears to be on its way out in 5 months of ownership and 5k miles.
He is speaking to someone above him and getting back to me tomorrow.

Is it a diesel or a petrol? If it's diesel it wouldn't surprise me if it was the dual mass flywheel. My car was juddering when moving off in 1st gear but otherwise it was ok I'm sure it would have got worse if I'd left it for much longer though. My clutch turned out to be alright but the DMF was knackered. I got both changed anyway.

If it is the DMF at fault I think it'll be a bit more difficult as I don't believe these are usually covered by warranty. However as you're only 5 months in you may have some luck. Here's hoping.

Clutch judder is usually contaminant on friction plate so when it is stripped down there may be a problem with a seal that is causing the judder. That should be covered under warranty.

If I got 50,000 miles out of a clutch on a Nissan Qashqai I'd be *very* disappointed. I'd expect to get 50k miles out of a clutch on a Mitsubishi Evo 8 or something.

Having said that, it does remind me of a thread we had on here a while ago. Someone bought a small Audi which was like 2 years old and 30k miles on the clock and the clutch went on it. They thought it'd be a warranty job due to how new/low mileage the car was. When Audi took it apart they found the clutch plate was completely worn and that there was no fault with the car. The OP did a bit of digging and found out the car used to be owned by a driving school :p

Moral of the story - generally speaking, it's not what you drive, it's how you drive.

I would have through anything over 50k is normal for a clutch anything under would be unusual unless it was a sports car or such.

Depends entirely on use. With mostly motorway driving a modern car should easily see well over 100k on the original clutch. A car used in the city by someone that continuously rides the clutch (e.g. learner) might be lucky to see 20k.
