TfL payment question

I have changed hospital and now have to get public transport. How does TfL payment work?

Say I have to get a train into the city, 2 undergrounds and train back, how does the payment work using a contactless card? Do I get charged for every single journey individually or do they wrap it up in a kind of one day travelcard type discount price? Tried looking online but a little confusing. I just want to work out exactly how much it will cost me for the days travel.

Wouldn't a lot of this depend on where you are traveling to and from?

From zone 5 into zone 1 on train, 2 under grounds zone 1 and train back to zone 5.

Oyster card caps at the price of a Travelcard if you stay in Zones 1-6 per day doesn't it?

The Pdf was helpful. It caps zones 1-5 at £11 a day so that's what I'll pay. That's not bad I suppose. What a whack to pay that everyday though.
