Hey folks, it seems like occasionally there are good deals on the iPhone 5S (probably refurbished, but would need to be "A" Grade). Does anyone have a good methodology for staying on top of where these deals surface? Ideally I'd like something that notifies me.

I want to get a couple for my parents, but I don't want to pay the earth.

Thanks!

That's a good point. What puts me off about the 5C is the 32-bit A6 processor (the 5S has the 64-bit A7), making it a lot more susceptible to slow performance with newer versions of iOS. I want these phones to last for several years if possible.

In that case I would still consider eBay but you may have to hang fire, especially if you want a pair. As you know people always want the latest phone so like we see the masses of 5c's that are about the same will come true of the 5s once the 7 comes out or more people jump on the SE bandwagon.

Ah yes, excellent point. I suspect Apple will announce iPhone 7 at WWDC in June. That should hopefully move the needle downwards a bit.

What does a Grade A 5s go for? Have you looked at the Iphone SE?
Grade A 5S are going for £250ish. SE Would be amazing, but it's £359. Was hoping for £150. O2 are selling "like new" 4S for £69, but that is a very slow and old iPhone.

Suppose it is quite a jump but £359 for a mini Iphone 6s is a great deal, and it'll last a lot longer than the 5s will.

I would never trust off eBay. 99% are dodgy refurb units with third party repairs.

I think you're being a bit melodramatic there.
Most iPhone repairs will be third party refurbs, but I am telling you now 99% aren't a "dodgy refurb". There are still good buys to be had from places such as eBay but only a fool would not apply "Caveat Emptor" when looking for such a thing.

I agree it may not be 99%, but who has the time and the energy to deal with the high probability of buying something rubbish? There are good deals, no doubt, but finding one is hit-and-miss.

Thanks for this -- it's a good price, but my parents live overseas, so can't buy anything that's tied into a contract.

Giffgaff phones are not tied into a contract.

You can pay for the phone all up front (or monthly if you wish). And you do not have to be on the giffgaff network to purchase them. Its just like any other store, they'll sell to anyone.
