EgyptAir flight from Paris to Cairo missing

LBC have just reported that a distress call was actually sent just before it went missing. Let's see if that stays the case.

And so the chances of my stepping onto an aeroplane in the near future decrease even more.

There's not that much room for it to go missing this time is there?

That's a bit silly, I would just restrict where you will fly to like no countries being overrun with islamic terrorist groups and no dodgy airlines.

I don't get these types of comments:confused: mind does boggle in all honesty when people come up with these statements.

You are more likely to die in a car crash than in an airplane. I mean thousands of flights all over the world and out of them, the odd one goes missing or crashes etc.

Anyhow hope they find it somehow, if not RIP to all that have lost their lives. I'm hoping this isn't some sort of terrorist attack.

Yeah but knowing you are going to die as you crash towards the ground would be much more terrifying.

Tragic..

It's winding me up, at how the news agencies at the airport have their cameras focused on relatives and loved ones stood around in shock/hysterics/tears - it's ******* disgusting and disgraceful how they do this each time there's a tragic accident.. I'm all for the reporting and information about what happened, but showing these people going through what will be the worst moment of their lives, is just utterly abhorrent.

This is the reality of 24 hour news cycles. It's disgusting and you could see the BBC fishing so damn hard wanting an expert on aviation to mention the possibility of it being a bomb/terrorist related this morning :|

Well there is no guarantee you will be killed instantly in a car crash. You could end up trapped in the vehicle and slowly bleeding out from a horrific injury while screaming for help. Or you could be trapped as the vehicle is slowly engulfed in flames and you burn to death.

I flew last week and I survived. You are more likely to die getting to the airport than dying while airborne.

But then you are DannyDrama. You like drama.

I also went on 2 planes last week and i'm here, i'm not the best flier either.

What i find strange though is that the plane was at 37,000ft and only 20 minutes from landing, surely it would have started its descent by then? I mean, we started our descent over London last week, 30 minutes before landing in Manchester. Same on the way out to BGY, we started descending about 30 minutes from landing.

I wouldn't get any plane thats going to be flying over the middle east/africa.

Again, 2 planes in the space of a year that have downed over the middle east / Egypt, i flew over Iraq / Iran in December/ January and i'm still here to tell the tale. The chances of being downed are still miniscule, like millions to one.

Well aren't you a bundle of laughs!

Report of location:

A Greek aviation source has told the AFP news agency that the missing EgyptAir plane crashed into the sea off the southern Greek island of Karpathos at about 01:30 BST.

Well aren't you a bundle of laughs!

Just saying, I know it's terrible to think of, but in every thread on plane crashes people compare them to car crashes and think the are worse, but neither would be nice way to go.

I think the worse thing about the descent in a plane crash is if you have family with you and you know there is nothing you can do to save them :(:(

orse thing about the descent in a plane crash is if you have family with you and you know there is nothing you can do to save them :(:(

On the contrary, you'd be able to tell each other your final goobyes/I love yous. The alternative of being on your own and knowing your partner/parents wouldn't know what happened, watching agonisingly as little snippets come through on the news and all the ill-informed speculation that comes with it... no thanks.

BBC: Egypt military denies distress signal received

In the past hour, EgyptAir said on its Twitter account that a distress signal had been received by Egypt's military from flight MS804 (though it is unclear whether they meant an automated signal or a manual one).

Now, Egypt's military, in a statement, says no such signal was received. We'll bring you more on that as we get it.

Well did they or did they not?!

I still find it crazy that I can track a plane on my mobile phone (to what degree of accuracy I am not sure) but as soon as something goes wrong the plane disappears. I can understand not being able to trace it using the conventional methods if the plane has a fault but surely they know the general area it was in would radar or other technology not pick it up?
