Nokia is on the way back !

Nokia is to phones what Amiga is to gaming machines. The name will, unfortunately, keep being sold to different companies to try and market on history and brand. Sadly it's unlikely they will bring anything new to the table. I hope I'm wrong though :)

So what happened then? I thought Microsoft was supposed to revive Nokia and make them awesome again.

Also, after this deal, does Microsoft still own Nokia?

Lastly, does this mean Windows Phone OS is dead?

I think so. I think they own the name when attached to a smartphone but not a feature phone.
Odd what Microsoft have done with Nokia. They bought it for £4.6Bn and seem to have just written it down completely.

as far as i understand the patents were highly important to Microsoft, perhaps not worth 4.6bn, but i don't think they've made as much as a loss as you'd think.

they also haven't fully sold nokia yet. I think anything micosoft did with nokia would have just further cost money and weaken microsoft's software reputation. Mobile OS is stagnating and i think soon (but not quite yet) will be a good opportunity for something different to rise.

They purchased the companie and licensed the Nokia name.
Windows phones have been branded Microsoft fir some time now, and the non compete licensing clause has ended.

Nokia is basically just a name now. As Microsoft got most of the manufacturing side and IP.

And no, Microsoft are still developing w10m and selling Microsoft phones. With a load of third party phones coming out in a month or two.

So as above I don't expect anything decent as it's essentially just a brand name being licensed.

The small Nokia team left seem to be doing more 360 camera type stuff.

It isn't actually Nokia that will be making the products. Nokia are simply licensing the name and patents to a Chinese manufacturer called FIH (Foxconn).

It's only Nokia on paper though, the actual phones themselves aren't being made by the same people Nokia had designing and making then back in the day since they sold their workforce to Microsoft.

They know what's at stake though, so I'd hope they live up to the Nokia standards of old.

Edit* As above!

Some of the last Nokia Lumias were pretty good, just let down with Windows Os so running android, and hopefully having some of their camera tech will mean some great phones.

Not quite. The brand has been sold to FIH and a company called HMD Global Oy. HMD is a Finnish company and contains a lot of familiar Nokia faces.

I wouldn't be surprised if they try and get the old band back together, albeit at a much smaller scale.

Right, but it's still not Nokia is it? It's a collaboration between FIH and HMD. Nokia will have someone on the board of HMD but they still aren't Nokia phones, just Nokia branded.

The company Nokia as it currently exists isn't involved but some of the spirit and talent may live on.
