EgyptAir flight from Paris to Cairo missing

Pretty well to be honest.

"In the United States, between 1983 and 2000, there were 568 plane crashes. In 90% of them there were survivors, and out of the 53,487 people onboard, 51,207 survived."

Again a perfect example of how stats can be made to twist the truth. What constitutes a plane crash in this statistic?

A small cesna clipping a wing while parking on the tarmac ? In reality, at best if the you're in plane is airborne and needs to make a crash landing, you're pretty much toast, unless you get really REALLY lucky.

Additionally three quarters of all statistics are made up on the spot.

There's a good chance you made that up! :p

Can't believe people would make a decision on this as to fly or not.
Reason it's in news is it happens so infrequently

If you are scared about stats of this level may as well stay in your room all day.

Statistics are useless without context. I do stats for a job and some of the things I see are criminal! More I do it less I believe in published figures.
Amount of intentional or not bias is crazy.

Same can be said for car crashes. What constitutes a crash.

As always, for me it comes down to simple risk reward. How many deaths are there? Not many! Not enough to miss out on swimming with Dolphins for example

That film where Jeff Bridges is the only guy to survive the plane crash totally messed me up as a kid. The depiction as the plane tears apart looked so real at the time. I should really give it another watch now.

Saying that I have still flown all over. In 2014 I took 8 flights in 2 weeks for work and I think that pretty much cured me, I was so bored of it by the end lol.

Last moments being reported:

EgyptAir plane fell 22,000 feet, spun sharply before disappearance: Greek defence minister via @AFP

#MS804 "made swerves and a descent ..90 degrees left & then 360 degrees to the right," Greek Defence Minister Panos Kammenos via @Reuters

The silence form Egypt is deafening.

A sudden lack of pressure means they would have been unconscious pretty fast.

Lets hope so. :(

What it does make me think, when these things happen (and on the roads...) is I should really get my affairs in order. I have paperwork, accounts, investments, pensions etc etc all over the place and it would be a nightmare for my family to sort out.

I don't get these types of comments:confused: mind does boggle in all honesty when people come up with these statements.

You are more likely to die in a car crash than in an airplane. I mean thousands of flights all over the world and out of them, the odd one goes missing or crashes etc.

Anyhow hope they find it somehow, if not RIP to all that have lost their lives. I'm hoping this isn't some sort of terrorist attack.

That kind of attitude isn't the same as say 5 years ago, how many planes have gone down\missing recently for one dodgy reason or another, i would say it is more likely you could end up in this kind of situation these days compared to 5+ years ago. Even airports in some areas are not as safe as they seem to be.

Yeah sure it is still pretty safe, but not as safe as before, and it all depends who\where you are flying.

RIP to all.

e: Just been watching Sky news and some authorities are saying it is more likely a terror attack than malfunction\error.

in the telly there was a reporter who said that the debris was found 50nm south of karpathos, 100nm NW from last known position, perhaps the pilot turned the plane to land on karpathos and didnt make it

Hmm I wonder who...Atheists at it again?!

Egyptian authorities have said they've found the wreckage.

Also, why the need to say that terrorism is more likely than mechanical issues? Because the media (and OCUK GD) eat it up? Why start speculating before they actually know.

I'm surprised no one has tried to link it to brexit yet.
