** The Official Nvidia GeForce 'Pascal' Thread - for general gossip and discussions **

Surely there must be some hardware reason why this wasn't done before.

Happens all the time though. New latest card introduces a new feature, previous generations of cards gets it a bit later as a driver update. I have read somewhere thast it is just a driver feature and will/should be released for earlier cards at some point.

Or somebody mods the inf on the new drivers and enables it sooner ;)

Wish people would stop saying this WILL be xxx on launch, Possible you are actually making it worse by doing that!!! "OCUK WILL add a large amount on top... these WILL be xxx". But then they will have to compete with other shops unless they have most of the stock I don't know. I won't be getting the FE, but I am really hoping other cards come in BELOW that, like Nvidia have said... as opposed to just effectively making the base amount 699 through dodgy marketing tactics.

My guess is £599 if not less. Can't see retailers asking for £620+ on the card. Hopefully we will get a few other vendor card choices on release aswell.

I think anything beginning with 5xx is ok if all the cards are around that, over 6xx is really taking the p**s.

When they released the 980 they had almost no competition either, AMD were behind then as well, and it still was 4xx for the 980.

Although with the 1080 they have a bigger lead so 5xx would be acceptable as the 980ti is already at that 6xx for a 314nm card is not acceptable!

What I don't understand is WHY are Nvidia not taking Async fully on board and utilising it properly? Makes no sense to me, surely it's a win win?? It can't be a technical hurdle too high given their resources?!

It takes 2-4 years for a GPU design to get to the market. Async is too new to be added just like that.

The async looks ok... for example hitman is supposed to use it a lot and the 1080 has very good performance there.

For them to fully redesign the cards for hardware async is going to take time so that will be vega not the 1080 or 1080ti.

2025 to 2165 is not bad though. Sounds good for people who's cards can already reach 2100+ on air.

what's the point if you only keep that overclock for about 10 min ? and you get less than 2% performance per 125mhz, you need 620mhz overclock for 10% performance boost.
that seem really low, i dont know if he benched with underclocked memory and thats why performance gain is so crap per clock.
this is a big let down.

Just needs more juice stick a extra 6pin and its good to go

Ohh I don't doubt more power is needed but he added on 145 mhz and only received around 2% or so in most things he tested. Just wondering if bandwidth is now starting to become an issue. There is no point in pushing clocks up for no real difference to what you see on the screen. His initial gains seemed ok but they dropped off a bit.
