My fiancee and I are travelling to Turkey st the start of June and heading to Icmeler which is close to Marmaris. Never been before and just looking for advice for anyone who has been. Its for 10 days and is all inclusive so thinking we won't need much money for eating out at restaurants and buying the odd thing from markets etc. Is there anything we should be looking out for and take into consideration?

Cheers

Been to Icmeler once before, never again.

Awful hotel, played music at the bar until past midnight despite their own signs asking you to be quiet after 11pm, and barely spoke a word of English.

Shopkeepers desperately trying to drag you into every shop, bar and restaurant you walked past, despite clearly wearing an all inclusive wristband, in the end I had to be positively rude to several of them - ugh, never again.

Only positive thing was the 2nd last day we managed to get on a last minute boat cruise, full of Dutch people. And blonde twins. Who sunbathed. Topless. :D

This was the only downside the couple of times I've been to Turkey and some of them will be full on lecherous to any women with you.

Be mindful of going out, as a female can attract a lot of unwelcome attention, especially Western ones wearing their more revealing outfits in the hot weather. Something more to be aware of if she goes out alone.

This advice from some Turkish coworkers, here.

That's part of the fun, to be honest. They're perfectly fine with you being firm/rude with them - that's what all the natives do.

It's bee a while now since I've been to Turkey (maybe 10 years), but would love to go back there when the kids are a little older.

Most people prefer not to be harassed or have to dish out harassment while on holiday. It's strange that the locals just put up with this as a cultural norm.

They could do with a visit from Mary Portas.

Been to Turkey 8 times. I think you might catch some of the tutle hatching season if i remember correctly, so book a little trip to see them hatch if it is the right time.

Also bring Pounds and Euros, a lot of places will bargain cheaper for stronger currencies.

I didn't find the place rough or dangerous or even intolerant of loud English people. It depends on where you go really but i cant imagine you want to go to places which are rough or dangerous because there simply isn't anything to do or see there.

Turkish salt flats was a cool thing to see too.

If shop keepers want to sell you something, dont eye the goods and just give them a flat no. They will drop it, as there is clearly no hope for the sale. They aren't rude in the sense of looking to offend but rather pushy in selling, if there is no sale to be had then there is nothing to push.

If your fiance is blonde have her dye her hair before going. Seriously.
