GTX 1080 – What’s not being discussed

Exactly. That is like comparing the 1080 to stock 980Ti performance, seen as a 980 at those clocks will be getting close to 980Ti performance.

Such a stupid comparison.

I don't know why people are bothering - the reviews mostly show good performance against the 980SLI setups largely backing up nVidia's claim even if it isn't a clean sweep across the board.

It was always going to be like this. Games with good sli scaling will be faster on 980 sli and those that don't will swing over to the 1080.

What a load of rubbish. The 1080 is 65-80% faster than the 980 across all benchmarks, that is faster than 2xSLI 980s.

Lolworthy Fanboy tripe.

Wow. Not much agenda in the OP here then ;)

Really happy when someone has a good point but this one's all over the shot in terms of reality/logic. Great example of someone choosing to see things in a way that suits them.

Is the 1080 [stock] quicker than 980's [stock] in SLI. Yes.
Will it likely also see 'special' editions with better power, faster RAM, run on water? Yes.

Compare like for like.

Stock for stock I don't know the results. Maybe the 1080 is better.
But I'm willing to put money on the fact that a max clocked 1080 wont beat max clocked SLI 980's. There isn't the room to play with that Maxwell had.

No but overall in terms of compatibility, smooth FPS, power usage, Vram etc etc. I would rather have a 1080 vs SLI 980. SLI 980 will probably be faster, when it works and gets good SLI scaling, but then 1080 will consistently work in everything and no microstuttering etc.

If you averaged every game in existence, 1080 vs 980sli, I bet the 1080 would be a lot faster, because a lot of games either don't work with SLI or have bad SLI scaling.

1080 is an amazing GPU from the green team, 980sli performance with little under 170 watts power usage from one eight pin power connector, I'm in awe of it.

Not sure where he is getting his numbers from unless mistaking the gamersnexus results like some others - IIRC they are getting an average of 8-9% performance increase from a ~10% increase in clock speed - but if you aren't paying attention it looks like 1-2% because they were comparing their DIY hybrid cooled results against the FE cooler OC'd results and not against the non-overclocked card.

Correct. He's getting that 1-2% from the increase of 100Mhz from 2.1 to 2.2Ghz.
