So who is actually going to buy a 1070 or 1080 ?

No chance am I paying 600+ for a graphics card. Daylight robbery!

I'm going to stick with 7970 until I get a screen that is better than my current one (1080p) or I might upgrade to a cooler/quieter running card but will only spend £250ish.

I'm almost certainly going to update my current 770 with a 1080. Still waiting for board partners to talk more about non-founders editions really though.

I might get a 1080 if a decently cooled one can be had for close to the regular MSRP.

I'm not paying over £600 as that is a lolworthy price. I know you have to pay for the fastest card out, but I wont feel like I need the fastest card at that price :p

Also, I wont be pre-ordering and will wait to see what AMD are offering as well in case Polaris surprises us all.

I might grab a 1070 but the 1080 is completely pointless for me. I currently game at 1080p so even the 1070 is overkill - the 1080 offers me nothing.

It would make sense to grab a 1080 and a 4k monitor IF the 1080 could actually max games at an acceptable framerate at 4k but it can't. So it's better for me to wait for a 1080ti / volta / equivalents from AMD, with a further plus that 4k monitor prices should drop over time, and maybe we'll also start seeing some OLED HDR 4k monitors too.

I'm going to delay upgrading until HBM 2 becomes ubiquitous with the xx70 mid tier. At least that's the plan!

Ouch, that could be years away yet. There is even rumours that the Gamer version of the full blown card wont even get HBM2 this cycle.

And since the xx70 doesnt even get the same high speed memory as the xx80 yet I suspect you will be waiting for the 1270 card before you will see HBM2 in that version of the card.

You will cave in before then :P

bought a second hand Sapphire R9 290 last January and it has served me well with a nice jump. I only game on 1080p.

Thinking of grabbing a 1070 and making a move alongside it buying a 144HZ monitor. I'm still rocking a 60 :)

Obviously will wait to see what the benchmarks look like, along with the price. My planned "treat for myself" this year from my bonus in work was going to be a Ipad Air2, but a new GPU actually sounds much more interesting and probably give me much more use and benefit.

Haha. You are almost certainly correct!

I am done with buying flagship cards though due to diminishing returns. I may even drop to 1080p@144hz when I start lusting after games that my 780ti struggles with.

If the 1070 produces x2 performance of my existing card I'll probably pull the trigger. Failing that I'll try to wait for the next iteration.

I sold my old LAN machine which I never really got to use, and I sold my GTX 980s in SLi in my secondary machine (that's £980 in my pocket), and I'm having birthday may 26th ;) ... So I'm just waiting for the GTX 1080 to get released, then I'll buy two and put in my secondary machine, then I'll compare them to my 3x 980Ti's, and If they match them, then I'll put the 2x GTX 1080 in my main rig and then I'll put 2x GTX 980Ti in the secondary rig and sell the remaining GTX 980Ti - that's my plan so far :D

I built a new PC recently and the only part i'm lacking is a new GPU, still using my R9 270, so i'm itching for a GPU upgrade.

Just wondering what will the availability be like for the 1080 when it releases?

I do not understand the founders edition at all...

For example :

If nvidia are 699 then the branded ones with the same cooler are 599

Same card, same board, same cooler, 100 difference...

Who is going to want the Nvidia card?

All of the cards using the stock cooler will be at the higher price point and carry the Founder's Edition name, regardless of what company's name is on the box. It's not just cards bought direct from Nvidia.

I was hoping for a 1080 under £450 so looking like its going to be a 1070 for me. Waiting for the reviews to come in. Be happy if there similar to 980ti performance for a lot less money.

Same here. I case of wait and see what the cheaper are like. In the past the selling point of ref cards with higher quality components was reduced chance of coil whine.

They have really blown the pricing. Makes me think that the over-clocking monster cards with higher quality parts and hybrid cards are going to be well above the price of the founders edition.

Danger, it is just becoming effectively vapour ware as the price is getting so high.

£500 yes £550 plus, reluctantly and I feel burned and dirty, £600 plus you would need to be wearing a mask, clutching a large bag marked swag and holding a gun to my head.

Really odd.

Hopefully the cards with 2 or 3 fan heastinks, will be between the $599-699.
